9/12/24 Reunion Makes Sense For Red Sox With Projected $77 Million Hurler. The Boston Red Sox will be in the market for a starting pitcher this winter. Boston's top priority should be adding pitching for the second straight offseason. The Red Sox were busy last offseason and added Lucas Giolito. Boston only needs to add one more hurler with a reunion with an old friend making sense.

9/04/24 Red Sox Star Called Boston's Worst Contract In 2024 Despite Imminent Return. The Boston Red Sox have had some really bad injury luck this season. Boston entered the season with extremely low expectations. The Red Sox looked good out of the gate and then injuries began to derail the season. Boston lost pitcher Lucas Giolito before the season began and yet the rotation was among the best in baseball early on.

9/04/24 Ex-Red Sox Superstar To Earn High Honors Making Boston Trade Sting. The Boston Red Sox could use some more pitching right now. Boston lost Lucas Giolito and Garrett Whitlock to injuries and have been finding ways to get through this season. The Red Sox have done a good job navigating the high-impact injuries, but they could use a little more pitching. One move that has come back to sting for the Red Sox certainly has been the team's deal involving former Boston fan-favorite Chris Sale this past offseason.

8/28/24 Red Sox free agent target roasts former agent after not landing in Boston. The Boston Red Sox didn't do much this offseason to improve their chances of making the playoffs outside of signing Lucas Giolito, who suffered a season-ending injury before the season, and Liam Hendriks, who has yet to debut to the club. One player that most fans were begging the team to sign was left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery, who remained unsigned until late into the offseason before joining the Arizona Diamondbacks on a one-year, $25 million deal with vesting options for 2025. Montgomery, in a recent conversation with The Boston Herald, placed the blame squarely on his former representative, Scott Boras, who he has since parted ways with.

8/23/24 Red Sox All-Star Expected To Stay; Would Be 'Complete Shock' If He Leaves. The Boston Red Sox likely will get an All-Star hurler back on the mound in 2025. Boston attempted to bolster the starting rotation this past offseason by signing All-Star Lucas Giolito. Giolito will have to make a big decision, though. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand said it would be a "complete shock" if he didn't pick up the option and stick around with Boston.

8/21/24 Zombie Red Sox continue to defy expectations of their demise. In a year in which their epitaphs were written well before the season began and updated, the Red Sox have repeatedly defied pronouncements of their doom: The offseason of measured ambitions, the Lucas Giolito injury, the Trevor Story injury, the Garrett Whitlock injury, a half-season without Triston Casas, a bullpen in freefall in the second half . The Sox not only claimed the rubber match of their series but also a winning record over a formidable two-city stop against teams likely to be playing in October. “That says we can compete with the best teams in the game, and for me, we are one of the best teams,” said Ceddanne Rafaela, who delivered a pair of RBI doubles and made an array of dazzling defensive plays at short. The pivotal moment arrived in the bottom of the seventh inning with the shorthanded Sox bullpen clinging to a 3-1 lead on a day when closer Kenley Jansen was unavailable.

8/19/24 Red Sox Makes Perfect Sense For Hurler Expected To Land Three-Year Deal. The Boston Red Sox are right in the middle of a playoff race with the Kansas City Royals. Boston and Kanas City are fighting for the final American League Wild Card spot and right now the Red Sox are on the outside looking in. The Red Sox will need to step up down the stretch and after the season likely will need to address the starting rotation again. The Red Sox likely will have Lucas Giolito back on the mound in 2025, but Boston will need to add one or two more hurlers as well.

8/16/24 Red Sox's Lucas Gioltio Explains Importance Of Leading By Example. Lucas Giolito was the biggest free agency acquisition made by the Boston Red Sox last offseason, but the first season of a two-year, $38.5 million contract went to waste after a right elbow ulnar collateral ligament sidelined the right-hander for the entirety of 2024. Although the 2019 All-Star, who's made a career in being one of MLB's most durable starting pitchers, isn't able to contribute on the diamond, doesn't mean Giolito can't lead by example. Having spent eight seasons pitching at the big league level, Giolito understands the importance of leadership to any clubhouse, especially one as young and talent-filled as Boston's this season. "It's hugely important," Giolito said on NESN's "310 To Left" podcast.

7/22/24 MLB power rankings: Angels' 12-month disaster shows no signs of stopping. No, it probably won't be the worst season in Los Angeles Angels franchise history. Yet you'd be hard-pressed to come up with a more disastrous 12-month period than the one about to wrap up. On July 26, 2023, the Angels were fired up, trading a handful of prospects to acquire Chicago White Sox pitchers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. A day later, Shohei Ohtani pitched his greatest game as a professional, one-hitting the Detroit Tigers in a doubleheader sweep. And then? Well, the bottom fell out. Just three games out of a wild card spot and flush with reinforcements, the Angels finished that season 18-40. Ohtani blew out his arm in August and left as a free agent in December . The veterans were

7/15/24 Royals starter opens up on talks with Red Sox over the offseason. The Boston Red Sox weren't exactly the most active team in baseball over the offseason, making mostly small moves with their lone big splash being the signing of starting pitcher Lucas Giolito, who is out for the season with a UCL injury. One player who Boston showed interest in, Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo, has been impressive this season, posting a 2.48 ERA (fourth in baseball) and a 1.09 WHIP (20th) while striking out 116 batters (tied for 19th). Lugo and the Royals made a trip to Fenway Park over the weekend, where Lugo surrendered five runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings of work.

7/11/24 Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito provides rehab update after elbow surgery. While the Boston Red Sox didn't do a whole lot to improve their roster over the offseason, they made one key acquisition in signing starting pitcher Lucas Giolito to a one-year deal with a player option for a second. Unfortunately for Giolito and the team, the 29-year-old suffered a UCL injury during spring training that forced him to have internal bracing. “They shut that down,” Giolito told MassLive. Despite that bad news, Giolito is still rehabbing hard and appreciating every new step he reaches in the process.

7/09/24 Red Sox Generating Belief, Grabbing 'Attention' With Hot Stretch. Middlebrooks, a former Red Sox player and current NESN analyst, gives his insight and opinion on pertinent Red Sox storylines throughout the season. The outlook did not look good for the Boston Red Sox a month into the regular season. The Red Sox lost their biggest offseason addition in Lucas Giolito to Tommy John surgery before the veteran right-hander even threw a meaningful pitch.

7/02/24 Ex-Yankees Star 'Could Hit' Market; Red Sox Should Join Bidding For Old Foe. If the Boston Red Sox want to get back to the playoffs this season an addition to the starting rotation almost seems like a necessity. Boston lost Lucas Giolito for the season before it even began and now also doesn't have Garrett Whitlock after he suffered a tough injury of his own. The Red Sox have performed significantly above expectations this season but their starting rotation is being tested and is undermanned. An addition would help in a major way and one player who would make a lot of sense is current New York Mets and former New York Yankees star pitcher Luis Severino.

6/18/24 Tyler O'Neill Does Something Not Done Since Former Mariners' OF Back in 2013. The Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night to run their winning streak to three games. With the win, they are now 38-35, which is rather incredible considering that Lucas Giolito and Trevor Story are out for the season. Furthermore, Triston Casas, Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello, and Garrett Whitlock have all spent time on the injured list. The Blue Jays loss drops them to 35-37 as they fight to get back to .500.

6/06/24 Former White Sox Liam Hendriks, Lucas Gioltio reflect on their South Side stints. Once the White Sox organization realized during the 2023 season that their chances at maximizing their competitive window were little to none, they started dismantling. They made several trades at the MLB trade deadline, including sending longtime starter Lucas Giolito to the Los Angeles Angels. After the season, they continued, declining to pick up fan favorite Liam Hendriks’ club option,...

6/01/24 Sam Kennedy's infuriating Red Sox comments prompt response from Alex Cora. The beginning of the Boston Red Sox's 2024 campaign was a pleasant surprise — they came up on the right side of a 10-game West Coast road trip with a 7-3 record, and fans were thrilled to watch an unexpectedly fun squad. Two months later, one-third of the way into the season, disaster has struck the Red Sox lineup multiple times. Lucas Giolito was out of commission from the jump, and then an injury ended Trevor Story's season. Rafael Devers revealed he had a shoulder injury that dated back to spring training, Triston Casas soon required a two-month absence to mend his rib, and the list goes on.

5/31/24 Red Sox exec calls out team for underperforming. The Boston Red Sox have been far from the best team in baseball this season, as they've put up a 28-29 record through their first 57 games. Boston didn't spend much in the offseason, signing Lucas Giolito and Cooper Criswell as their big free-agent acquisitions and trading for Tyler O'Neill. On top of that, the talent that the Red Sox do have on the roster has dealt with injuries. Giolito, Trevor Story and Garrett Whitlock are done for the year.

5/02/24 Young Red Sox rotation surprisingly delivering early-season dominance. There were some big April shockers, but absolutely no one (not me certainly) saw such mastery coming from the Red Sox rotation, not after Boston practically sat out the winter. After a so-so (at best) 2023 season, the Sox signed for the rotation only Lucas Giolito, the previously reliable righty who turned out to require Tommy John surgery (considering his history, yet another surprise). So it's incredible improvement among the young holdovers that's doing it. With Giolito and now Nick Pivetta and Brayan Bello on the injured list, and absolutely no expectations beyond its own front office, Boston's rotation has posted an MLB best (by far) 2.03 ERA while allowing an MLB best no earned runs in

5/01/24 Red Sox Reportedly Were Finalists For Ex-Blue Jays Fireballer In Free Agency. © John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports Red Sox Reportedly Were Finalists For Ex-Blue Jays Fireballer In Free Agency It sounds like the Red Sox really tried to sign the fireballer this past offseason Author: Patrick McAvoy May 01, 2024 In this story: Boston Red Sox MLB News The Boston Red Sox seemingly showed interest in every pitcher that was available -- through trade or free agency -- this past offseason. Boston entered the offseason with a real need in the starting rotation and opted to only sign Lucas Giolito. There were other players available and the Red Sox were linked to them all in some way, but the club wasn't able to get another deal done. While this is the case, it does sound like Boston really

4/25/24 Red Sox have 12 players on the injured list; who will come back first?. The Red Sox entered play Thursday with 12 players on the injured list. Pitchers Lucas Giolito and Chris Murphy (elbow surgery) and shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder surgery) are out for the season. Reliever Liam Hendriks (Tommy John recovery) and first baseman Triston Casas (rib fracture) will be out for the foreseeable future. Righty Bryan Mata (right hamstring strain) is throwing in Fort Myers but doesn't seem to be on the verge of a rehab assignment.
