Instead, he aims for a pine tree in a lot next to his house in Illinois. “I just tell myself to hit the tree,” Seibert said. Bucs Deemed Contenders Among NFL's Undefeated Teams. Early season success doesn't always indicate a team is destined to be in a good place come season's end. Talented ESPN NFL analyst Ben Solak recently recently took on the challenge of assessing each of the undefeated team in the league (there are nine of them) and categorizing each one as either a pretender or a contender. Of the nine teams, Solak believes four are a flash in the pan while the other five are legitimate contenders. With star running back Christian McCaffrey already on injured reserve, the 49ers learned after Sunday's game that receiver Deebo Samuel, one of the best and most versatile offensive weapons in the league, will be out multiple weeks with a calf strain. On the whole, the 49ers' situation could be worse. Both McCaffrey and Samuel should be back in plenty of time to ramp up before the playoffs, and the 49ers have the talent and regular-season pedigree to stay afloat in the meantime.

Mike Macdonald held one final game ball aloft in the happy locker room following Sunday's overtime win over New England, one of two he was handing out for someone who had closed out the win. Or, as Macdonald has come to call it, a “closer” game ball. “Hey, it's a trifecta right here,” he shouted following the 23-20 overtime win over New England, calling up kicker Jason Myers. Myers was the obvious hero making three field goals, all in somewhat stressful situations — a 44-yarder with no time left in the first half that put the Seahawks ahead 17-13, a 38-yarder with 55 seconds left that tied the game at 20 and a 31-yarder that won it.

Commanders Coach 'Impressed' by Veteran TE. The Washington Commanders added a number of veterans to the team this offseason to help steer the ship in a new direction. One of those players was tight end Zach Ertz, who played in just seven games with the Arizona Cardinals last season. Rams' Season in Turmoil: Injuries Pile Up as Team Faces Tough Rivalry with 49ers. The Los Angeles Rams are off to their first 0-2 start to a season since before Les Snead became their general manager 12 years ago.
