Fenway Park hosted more rivalry mayhem on Saturday night with an 11-8, 10-inning loss against the Yankees. The choice for extra innings was journeyman long reliever Chase Anderson, who gave up three runs, two that were earned. 11/08/23 Wednesday Rockpile: Exploring the free agent starting pitching market. The offseason is upon us and the big item on the to-do list for Colorado Rockies general manager Bill Schmidt is to address pitching. There are bound to be trades of some kind to bring in pitching, as evidenced by the trade deadline this past season, but it remains to be seen what the Rockies will do in the free-agent market. Thomas Harding of MLB.com wrote recently, “Expect the Rockies to push for a late-career starter of some repute, or possibly a pitcher trying to re-establish value.” While the Rockies may push to retain Chase Anderson and Chris Flexen, they shouldn't settle for the familiar when there are possible upgrades on the market that would be more worthwhile pursuits that won't necessarily break the bank.

10/16/23 Monday Rockpile: Trading from an area of depth could be the best way to improve Colorado's pitching pipeline. The Colorado Rockies' need is very apparent. The team could – and probably will – look to address its paper-thin rotation through minor acquisitions in the off-season. The waiver wire and minor league free agent deals seem to be management's best friends when it comes to acquiring starters, as evident by recent transactions like Chase Anderson, Ty Blach and José Ureña.

The long slog of 162 regular-season games will culminate Sunday, and in Denver, one team is packing for the winter while the other is getting ready for the next step. The Colorado Rockies (58-103) are closing the worst season in franchise history while the Minnesota Twins have a final tune-up before beginning the best-of-three American League wild-card round Tuesday in Minneapolis. The Twins (87-74) have won the first two of the three-game weekend series, including Saturday night's 14-6 rout. The teams will wrap up the regular season with Colorado sending Chase Anderson (1-6, 5.42 ERA) to the mound against Minnesota's Bailey Ober (8-6, 3.53) in a matchup of right-handers.

9/26/23 Anderson's strong outing and Jones' bat lead Rockies past Dodgers 4-1 in DH opener. Chase Anderson pitched five scoreless innings for his first win in 17 starts this season, Nolan Jones homered and the Colorado Rockies snapped a seven-game losing streak by beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 on Tuesday in the opener of a doubleheader. It was a rare loss for the postseason-bound Dodgers against the Rockies, who averted, for now, the first 100-loss season in their 30-year existence. The Dodgers came in having won eight of their first nine meetings this season against Colorado and a 30-15 record overall against fellow NL West teams. Colorado earned its franchise record 99th loss of the season on Sunday at Chicago.
