10/10/23 2024 Top Keepers – Relievers. For a majority of major league baseball teams, the season is over and players are taking some time off before gearing up for the 2024 season. But in fantasy baseball, there is no offseason - especially in dynasty/keeper leagues. Owners are busy trying to figure out who they should keep or ditch as they try to put together the best roster possible before 2024 comes roaring into view. With that in mind, welcome to the first installment of the 2024 Top Keepers. This week the spotlight falls on the relievers. When it comes to relief pitchers, I take a different view of them compared to other positions. That is due to the fact that most relievers are very inconsistent and have a shorter shelf life compared to other positions. Relievers could have had a great 2022 season, giving you lots of hope that you have a key member of your bullpen this year, only to fall apart this season. I'm looking at you Rafael Montero and dozens and dozens of other relievers. Knowing relievers are up and down, I don't care as much about age of a reliever like I do other players, especially position players. If a reliever is 33 but has been consistent year after year, I'm going to take him just as quickly as I would a 25-year-old flamethrower who hasn't figured it out on the mound yet. Now, let's get to the 2024 Top Keepers - Relievers.

6/26/23 Rafael Montero's contract is becoming a serious disaster for the Astros.

Neither of Houston owner Jim Crane's offseason moves are looking wise through the first half of 2023.

6/16/23 Astros have good outlook in upcoming series. Hey guys, it's Ari Alexander with the Astros, who finally got a day off Monday after 17 straight days with games. The Astros came home for a fun 9, with the Nationals, Reds and Mets coming to town. The pitching was again excellent, with two exciting games toward the back end of the series. Despite some bullpen struggles, the pen has largely been good and other than Rafael Montero, probably not a point of significant concern.

5/15/23 Believe It Or Not, Rafael Montero Isn't Terrible. Despite winning their second World Series title last November, the Astros had a bit of a turbulent offseason. The only other time he had a sub-4.00 ERA campaign before last season (2019), he followed it up with a 4.08 ERA in 2020 and a 6.39 ERA in 2021.

5/14/23 Montero blows another one as Astros lose 3-1 vs White Sox. Last year, Rafael Montero was a brilliant man out of the Astros bullpen. On Saturday night, the righty was hard hit to get his third loss of the campaign and see Houston go down 3-1 against the White Sox. To start the game, Brandon Bielak did everything you could have hoped for. Despite surrendering eight hits, including a solo shot from Luis Robert Jr., the Astros right-hander went five innings of one run, no walks, and four strikeouts.
