9/06/23 Former Tigers All-Star pitcher removed from Chicago Cubs' 40-man roster. It's been a rollercoaster of a week for Shane Greene. One week removed from the Chicago Cubs promoting the 34-year-old veteran from Triple-A Iowa, the club announced his designation for assignment on Wednesday morning. Greene's roster spot will go to left-hander Luke Little, who was reported to receive a call up earlier this week. Greene, a former All-Star pitcher with the Detroit Tigers, was working as a starter in the minors and pitched brilliantly in five starts – he'd log a 2.16 earned-run average with 20 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings pitched.

9/01/23 Chicago Cubs prospect Alexander Canario earns his 1st major-league call-up after overcoming devastating injuries. Months of rehab included his mother, Juana González, helping him because of how limited Canario became after two surgeries. Canario's extensive rehab process paid off Friday when the Cubs called him up before their doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds along with right-hander Shane Greene from Triple-A Iowa. “I never doubted that I was going to be able to achieve this,” Canario said through an interpreter before the Cubs' 6-2 Game 1 win.

Shane Greene started this game and picked up the win with five shutout innings, giving up four hits. It was Greene's longest appearance anywhere since 2016. Brad Boxberger continued to struggle in rehab appearance, allowing two runs on two hits over just a third of an inning.

Each country presents its own challenges in making it to the big leagues, whether it be the long history of Cuban players defecting to the United States, iconic Japanese players being posted by their teams, or players throughout Latin America being “discovered” on quite literally a weekly basis. I mean, come on — look at the Detroit Tigers roster right now! The Tigers have not sent a domestic-born player to the All-Star Game since 2019 when Shane Greene represented Detroit in Cleveland.

Former Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Shane Greene has been designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday thanks to the return of former Tigers pitcher David Price.
