9/18/24 Top Red Sox reliever: 'I think next year will be my last year'. Red Sox righty Chris Martin said last July that he plans to pitch for as long as a team wants him. “I'm going to play for as long as they let me — as long as I can still do it,” Martin said. “To be 100% honest, I think next year will be my last year,” Martin said. The Red Sox setup man, who turned 38 on June 2, plans to pitch in 2025 but he said he's 95% sure that will be it for him.

8/21/24 LSU baseball hires new strength and conditioning coach from the Houston Astros organization. Martin served as the Astros' Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator since last November. "I am really excited to add Chris Martin as our LSU Baseball Strength Coach," LSU coach Jay Johnson said.

8/13/24 Why did reliever return to Red Sox without rehab? ''Running out of time'. Last Wednesday, Chris Martin went straight from the Injured List to the Red Sox' active roster. Over three appearances, Martin has tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits — both singles — while striking out six.

8/07/24 Red Sox Could Receive Two Major Returns For Finale Vs. Royals. Two very important members of the Red Sox could rejoin Boston on Wednesday when the club tries to complete a sweep in Kansas City. Chris Martin "likely will be reinstated from the injured list" ahead of the Red Sox-Royals series finale at Kauffman Stadium, per The Boston Globe. Martin could make his return alongside Tyler O'Neill, who "likely will be available" for the final game of Boston's six-game road trip. The veteran right-hander has not pitched since July 3 due to an elbow injury.

8/05/24 Red Sox rotation has to right itself, but needed relief may be on the way for overworked bullpen. Chris Martin, the team's best reliever last season, could rejoin the roster as soon as Wednesday if he's deemed recovered from a sore right elbow. Martin has pitched only 26? innings this season and could be leaned on down the stretch. Justin Slaten, a Rule 5 pick who was an important contributor in the first half, is working his way back from elbow issues and should return later this month. Liam Hendriks, a three-time All-Star, is set to face hitters on Wednesday, a big milestone in his return from Tommy John surgery.

8/04/24 Red Sox get encouraging injury update on key reliever. The Boston Red Sox are in the thick of the American League playoff race after a busy trade deadline and are getting a big piece back from injury. Relief pitcher Chris Martin has been out with an elbow injury since July 3rd. Sean McAdam from MassLive.com reports that Martin could be available as early as Wednesday. The Red Sox have struggled since the All-Star Break, posting a 5-8 record in that time.

7/21/24 Whether club buys or sells at trade deadline, Red Sox know they have to keep their focus on the field. Over the course of three games — three blown saves in two winnable contests on Friday and Saturday, then a mostly lopsided affair on Sunday in which the Sox rallied from a 9-3 deficit in the ninth but fell short — several Sox shortcomings were exposed. Against lefties, the team went 11 for 56 with a .196/.297/.375 line and 21 strikeouts in 64 plate appearances (33 percent strikeout rate). The three blown saves suggest a shorthandedness in the absence of injured relievers Chris Martin and Justin Slaten — a vulnerability that will become more glaring without closer Kenley Jansen, who will not travel to Colorado because of an irregular heartbeat that he said required shock treatment three times in his career after pitching in Denver.

7/16/24 Jarren Duran's All-Star talent shines bright, but his mental health advocacy shines brighter. A five-tool talent with Flash-like speed, Duran has been a revelation this season for the surprising Sox. More folks in sports should follow the lead of the Red Sox leadoff hitter and speak up and speak out about dealing with depression, dark thoughts, and anxiety. Just last month, Duran's teammate, pitcher Chris Martin, went on the injured list because of anxiety.

7/13/24 Red Sox shut down veteran right-handed reliever on IL. The Boston Red Sox are starting to see injuries to their bullpen again, as Chris Martin landed on the injured list last week due to elbow inflammation and Justin Slaten was placed on the injured list for the same reason on Friday. On Saturday, NESN's Tom Caron reported that Martin is now being shut down after feeling more discomfort in his elbow. Caron also reported that there's no additional imaging planned, but the reliever will rest and hope to return later in the year. Martin hasn't been as good in 2024 as he had in his first season in Boston, posting a 3.42 ERA and a 1.025 WHIP while striking out 29 batters in his 26 appearances.

7/11/24 Injury to key reliever might help point Red Sox in right trade deadline direction. The Boston Red Sox placed veteran reliever Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list on July 4 with the always dreaded elbow inflammation. Martin's injury is usually a sign of something much more sinister and long-term. The Red Sox haven't provided any additional information about Martin's status, but he's only appeared in-game twice since June 23. Martin has been a key part of Boston's bullpen this year after his impeccable season in 2023.

6/19/24 Pitcher makes unique web gem to secure big out. Reliever Chris Martin pitched a scoreless ninth inning to finish off the 7-3 victory. In the process of pitching that scoreless ninth, Martin made one of the more unusual defensive plays you'll ever see. Toronto's Vladimir Guerrero Jr. came up with one out and a runner on first. As Martin backed up to field the chopper, he lost his footing on the pitcher's mound and tripped backward.

6/18/24 Red Sox activate reliever from IL, option starter to Triple-A. Before their Tuesday night matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays at The Rogers Centre, the Boston Red Sox made a transaction that impacted their major league roster. The team announced that they've activated reliever Chris Martin, who had been dealing with anxiety, from the injured list. Martin appeared in one game for Triple-A Worcester before returning from the injured list, throwing one inning and walking one.

6/16/24 Red Sox expect to get trio of injured players back in the next week. The Boston Red Sox have been battling so many injuries throughout this first half of the season, but they're starting to get healthy at a really important stage of their campaign. According to The Boston Globe, Boston is expected to get reliever Chris Martin and utility man Romy Gonzalez back for their series against the Toronto Blue Jays which will start on Monday. Martin was placed on the injured list due to anxiety, and he pitched a scoreless, hitless inning for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. Gonzalez has missed a couple of weeks due to a hamstring strain.

“Accepting it and speaking about it to professionals, getting a better understanding of how to take care of it, is what I’m working on right now.”

6/14/24 Red Sox reliever Chris Martin opens up about anxiety battle, scheduled to begin rehab assignment Saturday. “I was having some body fatigue that was stemming from some other stuff,” Martin told the Globe prior to the Red Sox series opener against the Yankees on Friday. The body fatigue was anxiety. Martin was one of the best relievers in baseball last year, his first season with the Red Sox. This season, in just 21? innings, Martin has a 4.22 ERA.

6/07/24 Chris Martin's IL stint highlights Red Sox importance to MLB mental health awareness. On June 5, the Boston Red Sox placed Chris Martin on the injured list. Martin opted to share the truth, though. The veteran reliever was transferred to the 15-day IL for anxiety. Mental health struggles, in general, have been tough to navigate for a long time.

6/06/24 Jonathan Papelbon strongly calls out MLB after Red Sox RP Chris Martin lands on IL. Mental Health Awareness Month is observed in the United States every May. Less than a week into June, Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Chris Martin was placed on the injured list with anxiety. Martin is hardly the first athlete to suffer from anxiety or other mental health issues and is one of several MLB players in recent years who've missed time due to similar circumstances. Major League Baseball has perhaps been the most proactive league in providing resources for its players and recognizing the importance of mental health. Former Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon says there is more the league can do.

6/05/24 Red Sox reliever put on IL because of anxiety. Mental health has become a hot-button topic within the cultural zeitgeist in recent years. Sports are no exception and Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Chris Martin is now the latest athlete to step back from the game for self-care purposes. Martin was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to anxiety, via ESPN.
