3/24/24 Cubs release reliever Carl Edwards Jr., infielder Dominic Smith. MESA, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs released reliever Carl Edwards Jr . and infielder Dominic Smith on Sunday. Edwards and Smith were in camp on minor league contracts. The 32-year-old Edwards was trying to make the Cubs' roster again after he broke into the majors with the team in 2015. He spent the past two years with Washington, going 7-6 with four saves and a 3.07 ERA in 89 appearances. 2/17/24 Edwards trying to make the Cubs again after helping the team win the 2016 World Series. Edwards is trying to make the Cubs' roster again after he broke into the majors with the team in 2015. The wiry reliever agreed to a minor league deal with Chicago last month that included an invitation to big league camp for spring training. “Last year cut short a little bit by injury but a reliever in this league who's had success, so I think health is important for him for sure,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said.

11/27/23 Finding bullpen help for the Mets, Part 5. The Mets have many needs this offseason, but the bullpen is certainly one of them. The list gets less exciting as we run down the options by their 2023 ERA, but it's possible—if not highly likely—that a bunch of these options could still be upgrades for the Mets. Carl Edwards Jr.: Having put himself on the map with a decent rookie season in 2016 and a pair of very good seasons in 2017 and 2018 with the Cubs, Edwards struggled mightily and didn't pitch all that much between 2019 and 2021. During the latter stretch, he bounced around from the Cubs to the Padres to the Mariners to the Braves to the Blue Jays, and he threw just 27.1 innings in total with a 7.90 ERA.

4/08/23 Rockies' rally comes up short in 7-6 loss to Nationals at Coors Field. The Rockies rocked LoDo Saturday night with a four-run ninth inning. Alas, the rally fizzled when Carl Edwards struck out Kris Bryant with two men on base, leaving the Rockies as 7-6 losers in front of 34,503 fans at Coors Field. The Rockies, losers of five of their last six games on the heels of a 2-0 start, got another shaky performance from a starting pitcher and received a pedestrian performance from their offense until Mike Moustakas crushed a two-run homer to right field in the ninth. It was Moustakas' first homer in a Rockies uniform.

10/22/22 Washington Nationals' 2023 Bullpen: Carl Edwards, Jr. finds something…. Signed in March, and called up to the big leagues in May, Carl Edwards, Jr. had history with Nationals’ manager Davey Martinez from the time they spent together with Chicago’s Cubs, and the 31-year-old, eight-year veteran ended up reestablishing himself as a reliable bullpen arm for Washington this season. Carl was really throwing the ball well,” Martinez said when they brought Edwards, Jr. up from Triple-A Rochester.

9/21/22 Braves sloppy late in loss to Nationals. In the bottom of the frame, former Braves reliever Carl Edwards escaped when Ronald Acuna struck out and Vaughn Grissom was thrown out at second, adding to the team’s woes. In the ensuing frame, the Braves had two base runners, but hurt themselves with another miscue. When Michael Harris singled, Austin Riley moved from second to third and started toward home – where he would’ve been out – before retreating to third.

8/10/22 Washington Nationals' lineup for the series finale with the Chicago Cubs. We got up, we got behind, we came back, scored a couple more runs, and then [Carl Edwards, Jr.] did a great job, got four outs for us at the end, but the guys hit the ball. Keibert] Ruiz, man, what a night he had, and [Joey] Meneses had a great night as well with the bat, so it was a good one,” Davey Martinez told reporters last night after the Washington Nationals snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-5 win over Chicago’s Cubs on Wrigley Field.
