The 28-year-old outfielder is fully expected to remain with the Cubs instead of opting out of his contract. Bellinger is in the first year of a three-year, $80 million contract, and he will make $27.5 million next year, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. As the final week of August gets closer, the Cubs are nowhere near the top of the division and have four teams separating them from a Wild Card spot. Javier Assad pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Cubs, allowing just one run on six hits and striking out seven. Porter Hodge earned his second save.
