7/30/23 White Sox Minor League Update: July 30, 2023. The win probability chart says it all, at no point were the Knights favored to win tonight's game. They even threw Xavier Fernández out there to get the final three outs for Charlotte. He didn't exactly look like a pitcher, with pitches ranging from 36.8 to 63.3 mph! However, you don't see any hits allowed there do you, Fernández walked one but that was it for damage on him. He also singled earlier in the game, one of just five Knights hits. Erik González led the team, with two. Mike Mayers, an option to get starts just because of the lack of arms right now for the MLB team, continued to struggle in Triple-A. He has a 7.51 ERA at this point, so, won't be a fun ride if he does get time in Chicago.

7/12/23 Report: White Sox acquire Kansas City Royals reliever for cash considerations. The White Sox traded cash considerations to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Mike Mayers, a right-handed veteran reliever, according to multiple reports. Mayers, 31, is in his eighth season in MLB. He holds a career 5.21 ERA in 204 games and over 260 innings pitched. His 265 career strikeouts to 96 total walks are eye-popping. This season, he’s...

6/07/23 Kansas City Royals lead Miami Marlins 4-0 early, go on to lose 9-6 (it wasn't pretty). The Kansas City Royals attempted to mortgage a fourrun lead on the success of “bulk” pitcher Mike Mayers on Monday night. Mayers, who entered with a sterling 1.35 ERA, was tagged for seven runs (six earned) in relief as the Royals blew a 4-0 lead and lost 9-6. Mayers allowed nine hits across three innings. It was a stark difference from his last relief appearance, when he nearly helped throw a perfect game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

6/05/23 Monday Mailbag: Where in the world is Asa Lacy?. The Kansas City Royals had a bit of an abnormal week last week, with back-to-back off days on Wednesday and Thursday. Before that, they started their week strong with a 3-2 victory over the Nationals and a 7-0 victory over the Cardinals. Monday's victory over St. Louis saw the team bring a perfect game into the eighth inning before Mike Mayers allowed a single to Nolan Arenado to open the home eighth. The Royals lost to St. Louis on Tuesday and then dropped two out of three to the Rockies to bring their record on the week to 2-4.

6/01/23 Royals Rundown: Mike Mayers or Mike Myers, Vinnie's Glove, and Is Bobby Reaching 30/30?. Mike Mayers has another strong outing for the Royals in Busch, but is it sustainable? A strong end to May has Bobby Witt Jr. Back on a historic pace. If you need more reason to listen, hear why Jacob dares mention Hunter Dozier and Vinnie Pasquantino in the same breath.

5/31/23 Introducing your new and improved(?) Mike Mayers. When a 31 year-old reliever signs a minor league deal, and then does not make the team out of spring training, you generally expect that their career is mostly over. Mike Mayers has turned that situation into an opportunity over the past two outings as “the bulk man”, throwing 10 2/3 innings while giving up only one run. You and I already know that he is not actually going to post a 1.35 ERA and contend for a Cy Young this season, so there is definitely some regression coming. Technically, Mayers has not started a game yet, but if there is an opener into him going five to six innings, that makes him in effect the fifth starter.

5/30/23 Hochman: Mike Mayers? Yup, that ex-Cardinals pitcher took perfect game to eighth vs. St. Louis. To this day, Mike Mayers' name is tossed around this town as a reference point, be it on text chains or Twitter or talk radio. “I wasn't a great big leaguer here,” said Mayers, who allowed nine runs in 1 1/3 innings of his major league debut, a 2016 start against the Dodgers on national TV. Well, back at Busch Stadium on Monday, Mayers was, again, responsible for one of the worst regular-season performances in Cardinals history. Mayers took over in the second.

5/29/23 Royals shut Cardinals out after carrying a perfect game into the eighth. When Mike Mayers made his Major League debut at Busch Stadium in July 2016, he endured one of the shortest starts by a pitcher making his MLB debut in the history of the league. Monday at Busch Stadium, Mayers stepped on the mound as a visiting pitcher behind Royals opener Josh Staumont and nearly put himself into the history books for a much more positive reason. Mayers delivered six consecutive perfect innings as he and Staumont combined to carry a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Cardinals.

5/25/23 Matt Quatraro made a bold proclamation. Mike Mayers answered the call in a Royals win. Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro made quite the pregame assertion. When asked his thoughts on Mike Mayers' upcoming start, Quatraro quipped that a complete- game shutout would be the best-case scenario against the Detroit Tigers. On Monday, the Royals bullpen was taxed after Brady Singer pitched 3 2/3 innings.

5/24/23 Detroit Tigers shredded by unlikely starter Mike Mayers in 4-1 loss to Kansas City Royals. Career reliever Mike Mayers struck out eight Detroit Tigers in four innings as the Kansas City Royals prevailed, 4-1, on Tuesday night.

5/17/23 Royals recall Mike Mayers, move Ryan Yarbrough to 60-day IL. The Kansas City Royals recalled right-hander Mike Mayers from Triple-A Omaha prior to Wednesday's game versus the host San Diego Padres. The Royals also placed Ryan Yarbrough on the 60-day injured list and fellow left-hander Amir Garrett on the family medical emergency list. Mayers, 31, last pitched in the majors in 2022 with the Los Angeles Angels, posting a 1-1 record with a 5.68 ERA in 24 appearances (three starts).

2/25/23 Spring Training Gamethread II. Spring Training baseball continues today as the Royals and Rangers match up for the second day in a row. While yesterday's game featured a lot of likely big league candidates, today's matchup features quite a few guys who may not even be in Omaha when the season begins. Mike Mayers will get the start today, for Kansas City. Interestingly there seems to have been some confusion about whether Matt Duffy or Tucker Bradley were starting today because they both are wearing the number 15.

8/31/22 Judge smashes No. 51, Yankees top Angels. Judge hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning for his 51st homer of the season, and New York snapped its three-game losing streak with a 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night. Judge connected for the second straight night at the Big A, driving a high fastball from Mike Mayers (1-1) into the elevated right-field stands. Judge has five homers in his last eight games, and leads the majors with 113 RBIs.

8/30/22 Mike Mayers allows 3 homers in rough start, ending Angels' winning streak. Back in 2016, Mayers gave up nine runs in a start in his big league debut, and then he became a reliever. Although he’d started a couple of games as an opener in the subsequent years, his next chance at a traditional start didn’t come until last week against the Tampa Bay Rays. Mayers pitched well enough against the Rays to earn another shot, but he didn’t have much success against the Yankees.

8/07/22 Jaime Barria, Mike Mayers pitch well in Angels' loss in opener of doubleheader. The Angels got to look at a couple more possibilities for their pitching plans going forward on Saturday. Jamie Barria pitched well in his return to the rotation and Mike Mayers didn’t allow a run in his return to the majors. Barria gave up two runs, both on a Ty France homer, in 4-2/3 innings of the Angels’ 2-1 loss to the Mariners in the first game of Saturday’s split doubleheader.

1/07/22 2021 Angels Player Review: Mike Mayers. One of the few bright spots to come out of an otherwise very disappointing 2020 season for the Angels was the emergence of Mike Mayers as a reliable weapon out of the bullpen. Claimed off waivers by the Halos from the Cardinals following the 2019 season, Mayers utilized a new cutter and a revamped mindset on the mound to work his way up to high-leverage spots during the COVID-shortened season.
