12/28/23 2023 Arizona Diamondbacks Reviews: #14, Brandon Pfaadt. Over the entire history of the American and National Leagues, only nine teams have won a pennant with a starter (min. 18 starts) posting an ERA of 5.60 or above. The 2023 Diamondbacks had not one, but TWO such players, in Zach Davies (ERA 7.00) and Brandon Pfaadt (5.72). The only other league champions to match that are the 1987 Twins, with Joe Niekro (6.26) and Mike Smithson (5.94).

9/27/23 Snake Bytes 9:27: Pouring It On. Diamondbacks News Arizona 15, Chicago (A) 4 The game sure didn't start off pretty. Zach Davies took the mound for Arizona and promptly spotted the White Sox a 3-run lead in the bottom of the first. The Diamondbacks responded by chipping away with one in the second, only to see Davies give it right back in the bottom of the frame. The Diamondbacks clawed back two more in the third. Then, in the fourth, Ryne Nelson calmed things down on the mound, followed by the Diamondbacks' offense finding their groove in the fifth, where they put up a six-spot. The game was easy sailing after that. Walker's Bat Powers Rout Two home runs. Six RBI. That'll do. Christian Walker's Monster Night Powers Diamondbacks

In the bottom of the first, the White Sox got to Arizona starter Zach Davies. With one out, Andrew Benintendi and Andrew Vaughn hit back-to-back singles to set the South Siders up for potential damage. Up to the plate stepped Eloy Jiménez, who took advantage of the RBI opportunity: The Big Baby launched a fastball over the heart of the plate 415 feet to give the White Sox a 3-0 lead.

9/11/23 Diamondbacks 4, Mets 3: Pham goes swingin' in the rain. Record: 76-69. Pace: 85-77. Change on 2022: +8. Zach Davies starts are always more of a chore than a pleasure. Even when he is pitching well, it feels like he is basically trying to bore the opposing hitters to death somehow. Maybe it's a factor of previous trauma suffered at his hands, with only two wins in sixteen starts now this year (a situation which also was true for much of last season). The bases on balls don't help. His walk-rate is almost in the worst 10% among pitchers with 70+ innings. It's not what you want from a guy whose average fastball has been in the eighties his whole career, and whose K-rate is in the bottom quarter. Tonight was another underwhelming outing. It started reasonably

8/26/23 Diamondbacks reinstate Zach Davies from IL to start vs. Reds. The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated starting pitcher Zach Davies from the 15-day injured list and optioned reliever Justin Martinez to Triple-A Reno, the team announced on Saturday. Davies will start Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds at Chase Field after missing more than five weeks with a lower back issue. The veteran said he's dealt with on-and-off lower-back discomfort since 2018 but has never felt it debilitated him enough to go on the IL. After a difficult stretch to start July in which he felt his command struggled, Davies opted for a cortisone shot to address the pain.
