9/18/24 Polarizing Ex-Red Sox Outfielder To Receive Absurd Amount Of Money. The Boston Red Sox made a surprising move ahead of the 2024 Major League Baseball season. Boston completed a rare trade with the rival New York Yankees and traded outfielder Alex Verdugo. Verdugo was a polarizing figure in Boston after being the centerpiece in the club's shocking trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers involving Mookie Betts.

9/12/24 Has Yankees' Alex Verdugo, here for only a season, already overstayed his welcome?. Alex Verdugo started two of the Yankees' first three games after Jasson Dominguez was called up on Monday, but the left fielder's playing time is expected to be cut a lot in the final two-plus weeks of the regular season. 9/10/24 Ex-Red Sox Star Has 'Hurt His Stock' With Yankees, May Settle For One-Year Deal. The Boston Red Sox haven't looked smart in many of the moves they've made this season, but their controversial preseason trade seems to have worked out. On Dec. 5, the Red Sox traded outfielder Alex Verdugo to the New York Yankees in exchange for a trio of pitchers. Verdugo was entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the Red Sox essentially decided he was worth more to them playing against them than for them. Reliever Greg Weissert has had an inconsistent season, while rookie starting pitcher Richard Fitts made a strong big-league debut on Sunday.

9/10/24 SI:AM | The Yankees Finally Made the Call-Up Everyone Was Clamoring For. Good morning, I'm Dan Gartland. I loved seeing the very similar back page headlines the New York tabloids published after the Jets' loss. In today's SI:AM: ?? Rivalry week comes early ?? The Brewers' star rookie ?? Transfer QBs under the microscope A boost for the AL's best team The New York Yankees are a really good baseball team. At 83–61, they're in first place in the AL East (1.5 games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles) and have the best record in the American League. But they've also got some problems, the most glaring of which is the play of left fielder Alex Verdugo. And for weeks New York refused to make the seemingly obvious move and promote heralded outfield prospect Jasson Domínguez to

9/09/24 Alex Verdugo responds to Jasson Dominguez's Yankees arrival with timely homer. Alex Verdugo's timing was certainly ironic. Maybe competition truly does breed excellence. Improved results, at least. The polarizing left fielder clubbed a two-run homer to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning of their 10-4 win over the Royals on Monday night in The Bronx. Verdugo had gone 52 at-bats since his last home run. 3 Yankees left fielder Alex Verdugo reacts after his two run home run against the Kansas City Royals in the fourth inning JASON SZENES FOR THE NEW YORK POST Explore More Bodycam footage reveals how chaotic Tyreek Hill traffic stop escalated from window knock to handcuffs Stunning twist in Raygun's breakdancing saga after Paris Olympics controversy Terry Bradshaw

9/07/24 Yanks 'staying pat' with Verdugo over Dominguez. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Alex Verdugo will remain in left field with the Yankees while top prospect Jasson Dominguez will stay in the minors, saying the decision gives the team "the best chance to win."

9/06/24 Hypocritical Mike Francesa rips Yankees legend. New York Yankees broadcaster John Sterling answers questions from reporters during a baseball press conference before a retirement ceremony at Yankee Stadium in New York, Saturday, April 20, 2024. (AP Photo/Noah K. Murray) AP By Joey Chandler | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com Mike Francesa doesn't agree with legendary Yankees broadcaster John Sterling's decision to come out of retirement for the playoffs. 9/06/24 Yankees GM Endorses Ex-Red Sox Alex Verdugo Amid Struggles. Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo struggled to find consistency with the Yankees, but New York fans shouldn't expect Jasson Domínguez to arrive any time soon. The 28-year-old hasn't been what the Yankees hoped for when they acquired him, which is why fans want to see Domínguez replace him.

9/06/24 Brian Cashman says Alex Verdugo -- not Jasson Dominguez -- gives Yankees best chance to win right now. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters Alex Verdugo gives the team the best chance to win right now over top prospect Jasson Dominguez.

9/05/24 Aaron Boone's and Brian Cashman's surprising faith in Alex Verdugo led to Yankees' divisive Jasson Dominguez decision. If Alex Verdugo isn't running out routine grounders because he's “beat up,” as Aaron Boone says, that's yet another reason to call up top outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez. The decision to keep the uber talented Dominguez at Triple-A beyond the Sept. 1 roster expansion date confounds many (including some Yankees people). And for most, word that it was made because GM Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone continue to have faith in Verdugo doesn't make it very much better. Boone mentioned a pre-September “conversation” among Yankees higher-ups about whether to promote Dominguez, and insiders say it was very spirited dialogue, with multiple executives strongly arguing for promotion, obviously unsuccessfully.

9/05/24 Yankees' Alex Verdugo Lit Up By Michael Kay For Jogging To First Base Vs. Rangers. New York Yankees fans are fed up with Alex Verdugo. The outfielder is posting a rough season for New York after being traded there by the Boston Red Sox. In the top of the fifth inning of the Yankees' 10-6 loss to the Texas Rangers, Verdugo hit a groundball to second base and jogged lethargically down the line. Broadcaster Michael Kay was nearly left speechless on the play, which obviously ended in an out.

9/03/24 Red Sox pitching prospect (Alex Verdugo trade) gets 20 swings and misses. Richard Fitts on Monday tossed one of his most dominant performances since the Red Sox acquired him from the Yankees in the Alex Verdugo trade last offseason. The 24-year-old righty allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out five in 6 scoreless innings.

9/01/24 Yankees give weak explanation for not promoting top prospect. Despite the season-long struggles of veteran left fielder Alex Verdugo, the Yankees surprisingly still believe there's no room on the roster for the top prospect in the organization. Instead, they opted to promote Duke Ellis, a pinch-runner and defensive replacement with four career at-bats at the Major League level. Manager Aaron Boone answered questions before Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, toeing the company line with a lazy explanation as to why the team didn't bring him up.

8/29/24 Yankees Prospect Threatening Alex Verdugo's Role In New York?. The Alex Verdugo-New York Yankees union hasn't been anything worth writing home about, and although the left-handed outfielder's struggles have followed him from the Boston Red Sox over to The Bronx, the dissapointing 2024 could prompt a late-season switch in left field before October. Verdugo recently underwent an allergic battle between his hand tattoo ink and the material used to produce the 28-year-old's batting gloves, which was confirmed as a possibility to excuse his subpar offensive production -- Verdugo's hit .209 (18-for-86, 13 strikeouts) through 22 games in August. Despite receiving a clean slate from this past offseason's trade from Boston to New York, Verdugo still hasn't managed to break out from being an average corner outfielder in the big leagues; and that stagnant growth could direct Verdugo straight to a seat in the dugout pending a sudden flip-of-the-switch.

8/28/24 Yankees' Alex Verdugo finding form with top prospect on deck. WASHINGTON — As brutal as the last two months have been for Alex Verdugo, Monday offered a reminder of the player the Yankees believe he can be — and need him to be down the stretch if he is going to keep starting in left field. The highlight was making a terrific catch on the warning track before sacrificing his body and slamming into the wall, which he came out of well enough to be back in the lineup on Tuesday. Verdugo added three hits in the series opener against the Nationals, all of them against left-handers and two of them going the opposite way with his bat-to-ball skills on display. 8/26/24 Yankees Notes: Alex Verdugo and Anthony Volpe fine after taking knocks in win over Nationals. Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo said his right knee passed all postgame tests after he ran into the left field wall in Monday's win over the Nationals. Aaron Boone said Anthony Volpe is "fine" after taking a knock on the head.

8/24/24 Red Sox-Yankees Alex Verdugo Trade Taking Turn For Worse In New York. Outfielder Alex Verdugo crossed enemy lines after the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees agreed on a four-player trade this past offseason, giving the centerpiece of the 2020 Mookie Betts trade a clean slate in The Big Apple. Although the acquisition of Verdugo was low-risk considering New York's only on the hook for one season -- Verdugo becomes a free agent in 2025 -- the swap has still proven itself to be a failure for the Yankees.

8/23/24 Yankees' Alex Verdugo opens up about career-worst slump: 'Going through s—t'. Alex Verdugo made contact, pivoted and took his first step out of the batter's box with extra-base intent. Before Verdugo even took a second step, he realized that his quality contact was going to result in another out. Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan was already camped underneath it, barely moving to haul it in. Verdugo put his head down, decelerating into a dejected trot.

8/21/24 Should Yankees Consider Benching Struggling Alex Verdugo?. Former Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo has been struggling at the plate for the past few months, but New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has not given up on his star left fielder, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner. "Dugie's been up and down the last couple of months after being such a force for us, especially in the middle of the lineup the first two months," Boone said, per Kirschner.

8/20/24 Alex Verdugo destroyed by Yankees fans after 0-for-6 night vs. Guardians. Or, a game could go to extra innings to give them additional plate appearances. One would think that Verdugo, despite being in a down year (he entered the night hitting .233 on the season), would get a hit in six opportunities.
