9/09/24 Will Jed Hoyer be back with Cubs in 2025? MLB insider shares insight. The Chicago Cubs are likely going to miss the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, but does that mean President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer's job is in danger? Hoyer has made a slew of moves in recent years in efforts to shore up the Cubs, including signing Dansby Swanson, Cody Bellinger and Shota Imanaga, and while the team has been in playoff contention each of the last two Septembers, they will in all likelihood miss the postseason even with expanded fields thanks to the addition of a third wild card.

8/19/24 MLB Network's take on 'Face of the Game' tells a story of what could've been for Cubs. Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson is meant to be the face of what is supposed to be a contending season for the North Siders but instead, his struggles have been a reminder of everything that has gone wrong with the Cubs since winning the World Series in 2016. Sure, that may be an aggressive statement, but the fact remains that since winning the World Series in 2016, the Cubs haven't acted like the Cubs in terms of Major League Baseball free agency. The Cubs added Yu Darvish after the 2017 season but that was a case of Darvish's free agency lasting long enough to where his price made sense.

8/16/24 Cubs' Dansby Swanson absolutely airmailed a throw to first in an error he'd like to forget. Committing a throwing error in the game of baseball is never an ideal outcome, but some are certainly worse than others. Dansby Swanson found that out the hard way on Friday in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. With the Cubs leading 2-0 in the top of the fourth,…

8/15/24 Dansby Swanson's recent success delays a bad conversation for the Chicago Cubs. One of the main reasons why the Chicago Cubs season went off the rails after the month of April was due to shortstop Dansby Swanson experiencing offensive struggles that were a reminder of the early days of his Major League career. During the month of May, Swanson slashed .155/.234/.241 through 64 plate appearances. While a knee injury limited Swanson in May, the 38 wRC+ he had that month ignited conversations that the Cubs may have another Jason Heyward situation on their hand. For all the praise that Heyward deserves for the person he was during his tenure with the Cubs, the fact remains his eight-year contract is a large part of the reason why Jed Hoyer is afraid of those long-term commitments to top free-agent players.

7/07/24 This Dansby Swanson stat is a major concern for the Chicago Cubs. The boo birds have been out for Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson this weekend as his season-long offensive struggles seemingly have reached a low point. Over the course of the past month, Swanson is slashing .186/.262/.340 with a wRC+ of 69 in his last 107 plate appearances. Through 306 plate appearances this season, Swanson is slashing .203/.278/.341 with a wRC+ of 77. Swanson hasn't just been bad; he's been a liability for a Cubs' offense that has struggled since the calendar flipped to May. While there have been signs of life shown by Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki, Swanson's seems to be furthering his regression.

6/19/24 Cubs hold off the Giants 6-5. Ian Happ hit a 442-foot homer, Dansby Swanson made it back-to-back longballs and the Chicago Cubs hung on to beat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 on Wednesday. Jorge Soler made it interesting in the eighth inning with a 444-foot grand slam over the bleachers in left field against Tyson Miller that got the Giants within one, but Colten Brewer pitched around back-to-back walks to Wilmer Flores and Brett Wisely in the ninth and finished for his first save.

Ian Happ had two hits and two runs for the Cubs, while Michael Busch and Cody Bellinger each had two hits and one run in the middle game of the three-game series. 6/17/24 Dansby Swanson's important message as Cubs continue to sink. This is not where the Chicago Cubs wanted to be. More than halfway through June and nine games shy of the midway point of the season, the Cubs are in last place in the NL Central. Two games separate Chicago from second place, while eight and a half games separate the Cubs from first place. The division was expected to be wide open and after the Cubs narrowly missed the playoffs last year, Chicago was among the favorites for the division in 2024.

6/02/24 Swanson’s tiebreaking 2-run homer, Suzuki’s grand slam lift Cubs past Reds 7-5 at wet Wrigley Field. Dansby Swanson hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-5. Seiya Suzuki committed an ugly error and hit his first career grand slam — in one wild inning — as Chicago won for just the second time in its last 10 games. Mark Leiter Jr. got three outs for the win, and Héctor Neris handled the ninth for his seventh save in nine opportunities. Spencer Steer had three hits for Cincinnati, which had won five of seven. The start was delayed for almost 3 1/2 hours because of rain, and the showers continued with varying intensity through the first few innings at Wrigley Field.
