9/19/24 American League East Team Named Suitor for Pending Philadelphia Phillies Free Agent. When the Philadelphia Phillies traded for Carlos Estevez at the deadline, it was uncertain if the front office viewed the move as one to only help them win right now. If history suggests anything, the Phillies don't trade for players just to make a move. If Dave Dombrowski believes Estevez would be a valuable piece to the bullpen moving forward, which he's proven to be, he'll look to keep him around, despite the chances of him leaving in free agency. Estevez was arguably the best reliever traded at the deadline.

9/09/24 Philadelphia Phillies 'Wish' They Could Go Back and Add Biggest Trade Deadline Need. The Philadelphia Phillies have started to play better recently after about two months of their worst play in a very long time. Carlos Estevez has been excellent, posting a 1.72 ERA in 15 2/3 innings pitched, striking out 16 hitters in that span. In 19 games with the Phillies, he hasn't been great, posting a .254/.275/.373 slash line and an OPS+ of 81. It also left Philadelphia with that issue in center field, something that clearly needed to be fixed before the season started.

8/29/24 Rangers listed as potential landing spot for All-Star closer this winter. The Texas Rangers have had a difficult 2024 season. With less than 30 games remaining, the Rangers own a record of 62-71 and are not far off from being eliminated from postseason contention. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report suggested that they could be in the market for closer Carlos Estevez. "If not a return to the Phillies, the Texas Rangers, Cubs, and Diamondbacks could all be fits for the veteran righty."

8/10/24 Philadelphia Phillies Have Major Fall in Farm System Rankings. The Philadelphia Phillies haven't always looked like it in the second half of the season, but they are one of the best teams in baseball this season. The Phillies had a strong stable of arms, but manager Rob Thomson mixes and matches without set roles in the backend. The biggest splash they made was acquiring closer Carlos Estevez from the Los Angeles Angels. Philadelphia also acquired left-handed reliever Tanner Banks from the Chicago White Sox.

8/08/24 Philadelphia Phillies New Closer Named 'Biggest Impending Free Agent'. The Philadelphia Phillies have been the best team in baseball for much of the season. Despite some of their struggles in recent weeks, it's still safe to say that they're the favorite to win the World Series as of right now. Dave Dombrowski has done an excellent job with this roster, and if things go as planned, they should be one of the better teams in the league for the next five-plus campaigns. One of those is recently added relief pitcher, Carlos Estevez.

8/06/24 Philadelphia Phillies Reportedly Release Top Prospect in Surprise Move. Current Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, has operated with a borderline reckless approach when it comes to his team's prospects in the past. Many expected that to be the case at this year's deadline, and while he certainly spent aggressively to land star closer Carlos Estevez, the future Hall of Famer was much more reserved regarding his prospect pool than he has been before. Signed by Philadelphia in 2016, he climbed up the ranks and burst onto the scene in 2019 when he was regarded as their 12th-best prospect.

8/05/24 Here's Where Philadelphia Phillies Young Star Reliever Needs to Improve. One of the big moves that the Philadelphia Phillies made ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline was acquiring right-handed reliever Carlos Estevez from the Los Angeles Angels. Thomson doesn't have traditional roles for his relievers, mixing and matching throughout the game, but with the addition of Estevez, it is fair to wonder what the youngster's role will be.

8/01/24 Philadelphia Phillies Criticized for Lack of Moves During Trade Deadline. The Philadelphia Phillies didn't have a bad trade deadline, but there's a feeling around baseball that they could've done more. As the Phillies saw with the Carlos Estevez trade, prices were outrageous. If they were going to make another move, they would've likely had to move a few other top prospects in their system. While prospect hugging often isn't a good idea, especially for a team with World Series aspirations, it's tough to blame them for not moving big hauls for marginal upgrades.

7/31/24 Angels following youth movement with Rockies up next. The Los Angeles Angels, a young team that has gotten younger in recent days, hosts the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif. With the trade deadline looming, the Angels sent closer Carlos Estevez to the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday and shipped set-up man Luis Garcia to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. In return, the Angels landed a total of six minor leaguers. Hard-throwing right-hander Ben Joyce, 23, will eventually slide into the closer's role, joining a number of young Angels players who are regulars in the lineup.

7/30/24 Philadelphia Phillies Miss Out on Top Trade Target. The Philadelphia Phillies have already made multiple moves during the trade deadline, giving themselves a more well-rounded club entering the second half of the season. Reports have indicated that they're still in the mix for a relief pitcher after landing Carlos Estevez, a smart decision given the situation they're in. Scott has been a rumored target for Philadelphia throughout the past few months, and it made perfect sense.

7/30/24 New Philadelphia Phillies Reliever Reveals Thoughts on New Role. Carlos Estevez is joining the Philadelphia Phillies at a good time. After spending the first eight years of his career with a pair of moribund franchises (the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels), Estevez is finally joining a winner. The Phillies have the best record in baseball and are hungry to win the World Series this year after falling short the last two Octobers. While Estevez had the ninth inning to himself with the Angels, he understands that may not be the case on his new team.

7/29/24 Estevez arrives, sounds like Phillies' closer in everything but name. Ten different Phillies relievers have combined for 27 saves, but they won't be spreading the wealth much with Carlos Estevez joining the bullpen.

7/29/24 MLB Rumors: Kevin Pillar Drawing Tons Of Interest As Trade Deadline Nears. The Los Angeles Angels have done a very nice job operating as sellers at this season's trade deadline. Trading Carlos Estevez and pursuing deals that will send other veterans to playoff teams should put them in a better spot going forward. One of the next players they could trade away is outfielder Kevin Pillar. Pillar, Taylor Ward, Luis Rengifo, Willie Calhoun, Tyler Anderson, Hunter Strickland, Luis Garcia and Carson Fulmer are the Angels players who are roughly 30 years old or older and have been at least solid this season.

7/28/24 Phils land Angels closer Estevez for 2 prospects. The Phillies bolstered an already strong bullpen, acquiring closer Carlos Estevez from the Angels for top pitching prospects George Klassen and Samuel Aldegheri.

7/28/24 Will Phillies manager Rob Thomson name a closer after 3 years following Estevez trade?. (AP Photo/Stephen Brashear) AP AP By Bill Evans | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com PHILADELPHIA - Since taking over as Phillies manager midway through the 2022 season, Rob Thomson has preferred to use his high-leverage relievers against specific pockets of the lineup as opposed to particular innings. Along those lines, he has not named a dedicated closer. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation. 7/10/24 Angels, Rangers close series, look to what's ahead. The Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers will wrap up their three-game series Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif., both teams trying to finish the first half strong while having different objectives after the All-Star break. The Rangers are the defending World Series champions and despite a disappointing first half, they still want to make a run at the playoffs. The Angels, however, long have been out of contention and will look to make improvements focusing on the long term. One move the Angels are expected to make is to trade closer Carlos Estevez, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

7/06/24 Philadelphia Phillies Might Target Angels' Star Closer as Deadline Acquisition. The Philadelphia Phillies will certainly be buyers before the trade deadline. Contending teams will always look for relief help, and the Phillies should be no different. Despite ranking eighth in the MLB in bullpen ERA (3.49), there have been a lot of innings put on the arms of their main contributors already this season, and without a true go-to closer, the backend still has some questions that need to be addressed. If Dave Dombrowski and his front office are looking to sure-up the closer role, then they might be looking at current Los Angeles Angels star Carlos Estevez.
