Each year, the Roberto Clemente Award recognizes players across Major League Baseball for their philanthropy and positive impacts within their communities. Sewald and his wife, Molly, partnered with the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and Child Crisis Arizona to raise money for children across Arizona and provide them with a safe environment.

8/18/24 Is Paul Sewald bound to be the Diamondbacks' closer again?. As the Arizona Diamondbacks continue to work with a closer-by-committee, manager Torey Lovullo's hope is someone will emerge as the clear ninth-inning option after Paul Sewald was removed from the position. Justin Martinez has received the opportunity to do so for Arizona's last three saves, and when it comes to closer stuff, he's got it. Lovullo has not anointed anyone despite the trust shown in Martinez recently, and he continues to leave the door open for Sewald to walk back in. “I think Justin is capable of a lot, I think we all see that,” reliever Ryan Thompson told Arizona Sports.

7/29/24 Nationals-Diamondbacks series: Pitching probables, key players. The Arizona Diamondbacks may have won seven of their last eight series, but sometimes they just can't get out of their own way. This was evident in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, where they led 2-1 entering the ninth before closer Paul Sewald's blown save ultimately prevented a sweep. Arizona hasn't swept a team since May 9, when it completed a three-game sweep against the Cincinnati Reds. The D-backs sit at 55-51, half a game back from the third Wild Card spot as seven teams are within five games of each other atop the NL Wild Card race.

7/26/24 The Diamondbacks Overcome 3-0 Deficit to Beat the Pirates 4-3. As Paul Sewald let out a primal scream after recording the final out, he put an exclamation point on a game the D-backs seemed unlikely to win. Down 3-0 early, the Diamondbacks came back to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3. After starting the year 1-38 in games they trailed by two or more runs at any point in the game, the D-backs are now 4-5 in July in such contests. The way Gallen's night started, it would have been difficult to predict he'd pitch into the seventh inning holding a lead.

7/12/24 Diamondbacks Close Out First Half at Home vs Blue Jays. The Arizona Diamondbacks are in the home stretch of the first half of MLB's season. After a successful road trip in southern California, Arizona split a four-game set with the Atlanta Braves. Now, the Blue Jays will come to Phoenix for a three game series. The D-backs have kept themselves afloat at 47-47, just one game back of an NL Wild Card berth, but have failed to capitalize on an opportunity to rocket above .500 and occupy a playoff spot, largely due to three blown saves by closer Paul Sewald.

7/12/24 Diamondbacks look to go over .500 vs. Blue Jays. The Arizona Diamondbacks hope to move above .500 for the first time since April 3 when they face the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series in Phoenix. The Diamondbacks are in that position after winning eight of their past 12 games, including a 1-0 victory over the visiting Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Arizona was one out away from moving over the break-even mark on Monday before closer Paul Sewald allowed a tying two-run homer to Atlanta's Sean Murphy. The Braves eventually won in 11 innings.

7/10/24 Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Nothing has felt different in bad week. Paul Sewald was more than likely not going to have a perfect season, and his last three outings have swung the pendulum the other way. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo has been clear the next save opportunity will go to Sewald.

7/09/24 Zac Gallen Looks to Stay Hot at Chase Field and Lead the D-backs to Victory. The Arizona Diamondbacks are coming off yet another heartbreaking loss, this time to the Atlanta Braves. After entering the 9th inning up 3-1, closer Paul Sewald blew yet another lead, his third blown save in a row. The team would be on a 9-game winning streak if Sewald had been able to lock down those three save attempts. Regardless, today is a new day and Zac Gallen and company will look to get back to .500 after entering today 45-46.

7/06/24 D-backs Look to Brandon Pfaadt to Save the Bullpen and Get a Win. The Arizona Diamondbacks are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the San Diego Padres. After scoring six runs in the 9th inning to take the lead, Closer Paul Sewald blew the lead and allowed a walk-off homer to Manny Machado. Thus, the D-backs will seek to get back in the win column Saturday night at 6:40 PM local AZ time. The D-backs are battling for a NL Wild Card spot and falling further from the No.3 spot fast.

Teoscar Hernández capped off a walk-off win for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, showcasing their strong ability to do damage late in games. Hernández stepped in against Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald, and barreled a second-pitch four-seam fastball into left field, plating the winning run. Hernández's 100.2 mph walk-off single was another notch in his high-leverage belt this season, as he's earned the nod as one of the Dodgers' most clutch hitters.

6/21/24 Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald on efficiency after adventures in 2023. The Paul Sewald Experience has meant two very different things from his first impressions with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season to his current form. Sewald told Arizona Sports' Bickley & Marotta on Friday it was frustrating to have seemingly every save opportunity become an adventure after he came over from the Seattle Mariners at the trade deadline.

6/07/24 Padres announcer Mark Grant, fans slam call vs Diamondbacks: 'You gotta be shaving me!'. The calls sometimes go your way in baseball and they sometimes don't. A game-ending strike call did not go the San Diego Padres' way in a 4-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday and it had a Padres announcer and Padres fans fuming. In the bottom of the ninth, Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald struck out Jake Cronenworth on a called third strike pitch that was high and outside, preventing the Padres from having a chance to at least tie the game with Jurickson Profar on base from having walked before Cronenworth's appearance at the plate. Home plate umpire Erich Bacchus immediately endured Cronenworth's complaining, manager Mike Shildt in his face and loud boos from the San Diego fans at

6/04/24 A Seattle Mariners trade fit to watch? Reunion with Paul Sewald. The Seattle Mariners made a big trade around the 2023 MLB trade deadline centered around high-leverage relief pitcher Paul Sewald. A year later, it's looking possible that could be the case once again – only with the Mariners on the other end this time. Sewald was dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks last year, netting Seattle the trio of infielders Josh Rojas and Ryan Bliss and outfielder Dominic Canzone.

6/02/24 Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald rips 'P.O.S.' Mets fan after confrontation. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Paul Sewald returned to Citi Field on Saturday to pitch against the New York Mets – the team he played for from 2017 to 2020. The New York Post reported after the game that the reliever got into a shouting match with Mets fans in the immediate aftermath of the win. Sewald told the newspaper he thought he had "matured a little bit" since he last pitched at Citi Field. "But I get done with the game, and I got some P.O.S. just out there chirping and swearing, in front of kids, at me, and it just reminds me exactly of what I went through while I was here," he lamented to the New York Post.
