The San Diego Padres had plenty to be happy about thanks to Fernando Tatis Jr. Starting pitcher Dylan Cease cruised into the ninth inning with some outstanding work. 9/16/24 Did Season-Opening Series in Korea Contribute to Padres Outfielder's Major Injury?. San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. missed significant time during the summer because of a stress reaction in his right femur. Tatis originally went on the injured list on June 24, and was later transferred to the 60-day IL. Despite going on the IL in June, Tatis had been playing through the injury for the entire season. Tatis had not dealt with the injury during the offseason though, creating belief that it could have stemmed from when the Padres began the season in South Korea for the Seoul Series.

9/14/24 Fernando Tatis Jr. on a tear as Padres visit Giants. Fernando Tatis Jr. will continue the pursuit of his third consecutive 20-home run season when the San Diego Padres go for a second straight road win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. Tatis followed a game-opening single by Luis Arraez with his 17th homer in a three-run first inning against Giants All-Star Logan Webb in Friday's 5-0 win. The 25-year-old Tatis, who belted 22 homers as a rookie in 2019, has missed reaching the 20-homer mark just twice his career - during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, when he hit 17 in 59 games, and in 2022, when he sat out the entire season while injured and on suspension.

San Diego Padres outfielders Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill were limited to emergency hitting duties Saturday because of injury. During Saturday's 6-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants, Tatis and Merrill sat out the first eight innings of the game before coming to the plate in the ninth inning. The Padres previously planned the day of rest for Tatis, who only recently returned from a stress reaction in his femur that caused him to miss over two months of action. 8/28/24 Why Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr. Might Not Need a Rehab Assignment. One of the most important players in the San Diego Padres organization could return from the injured list soon — without a minor league rehab assignment. Fernando Tatis Jr. sprinted in the outfield on Thursday, then took batting practice with the team for the first time on Friday. It's not unusual for teams to maintain a staff at their spring training complex year-round to accommodate such an arrangement. The Padres are not alone in trainsitioning from spring training to extended spring training, then the Arizona Complex League, all while welcoming rehabbing players to their facility in Peoria, Ariz. throughout the year.

Despite an encouraging batting practice, there is no clear timetable for when Tatis could return to playing for the team.
