8/18/24 Mishaps spoil Paul Blackburn’s strong outing, Marlins avoid sweep after handing Mets 3-2 loss. NEW YORK — Rain drenched Citi Field hours before first pitch. Then the Miami Marlins made sure to not let the New York Mets enjoy the sunshine afterwards. Marlins outfielder Derek Hill’s RBI single off Phil Maton scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning that led to the Mets’ 3-2 loss on Sunday afternoon. Before the go-ahead run, Reed Garrett picked off a runner, but also walked three in ...

7/29/24 Mets fill holes with trades for Jesse Winker, relievers, but still have room to improve before deadline. An impending free agent, Winker says the fourth-place Washington Nationals were upfront about their intentions before they shipped him to the Mets on Sunday, two days before Tuesday's MLB trade deadline. “The last week or so, it's hard not to pay attention to it because, essentially, your life's changing, and there are things that come with that,” Winker told the Daily News on Monday at Citi Field. Winker, a 2021 All-Star outfielder in the midst of another solid season, marked the biggest acquisition of the summer thus far by the surging Mets, who emerged as buyers after turning their season around. Earlier this month, the Mets traded for right-handed relievers Phil Maton and Ryne Stanek to help bolster a bullpen beset by injuries.

7/28/24 Mets Eyeing AL Club's Hard-Throwing Hurler to Boost Bullpen. It's evident that the New York Mets need more bullpen help even after acquiring righty duo Phil Maton and Ryne Stanek this month. As MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported on Saturday, the Mets are among the teams interested in Los Angeles Angels right-handed relief pitcher Luis Garcia.

7/12/24 Here's how new Mets addition fared in first relief appearance. New Mets addition Phil Maton pitched a scoreless seventh against the Nationals on Thursday. (AP Photo/Chris O'Meara) AP By Manny Gómez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com NEW YORK — The Mets got their first look at their new bullpen addition on Thursday at Citi Field. That's when Phil Maton, the right-hander New York acquired from the Rays on Tuesday, made his first appearance. In Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Nationals, Maton entered in relief of left-handed starter David Peterson. It only took 6-foot-2 righty 10 pitches (nine strikes) to retire Washington's hitters in order, including two strikeouts. 7/10/24 Mets' beleaguered bullpen gets it done in win over Nationals. Bullpen arms are going down with alarming frequency at Citi Field and it happened again Wednesday, as the Mets — on the same day Phil Maton arrived after being acquired from the Rays — lost Reed Garrett to an elbow injury. With Garrett on the 15-day IL and waiting for an MRI exam result after experiencing forearm and elbow discomfort following his rough outing on Tuesday, the Mets somehow got a boost from the pen in Wednesday's 6-2 win over Washington . Three relievers combined to toss 2 ²/3 scoreless innings, with two outs coming from the struggling Jake Diekman, two more from Danny Young — just recalled from Triple-A Syracuse — and the final four outs from Jose Butto, who earned his first save.

7/10/24 Mets look to move above .500 in rematch vs. Nationals. Phil Maton can't get to New York fast enough to help the Mets' beleaguered bullpen. For the Washington Nationals, the beginning of the game is the problem. The Mets will hope to have Maton in uniform Wednesday night when they host the Nationals in the middle contest of a three-game series between the National League East rivals. Right-hander Luis Severino (5-3, 3.83 ERA) is slated to start for the Mets against Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin (1-8, 5.49).

2/03/24 Another Yankees' bullpen target comes off market, landing with division rival. The Yankees' door to upgrade their bullpen via free agency is closing fast as relievers continue to fly off the shelves. This comes after ex-Yankees Wandy Peralta and Keynan Middleton both picked National League teams earlier in the week.
