They held a 4 1/2 game lead over Royals and a 6-game lead over the Twins in the AL Central when they left Chicago. 9/03/24 Key Cleveland Guardians Outfielder Turning Season Around. The Cleveland Guardians acquired Lane Thomas at the trade deadline with the intention that he could provide the lineup with some much-needed help. Cleveland has been in need of another contact-minded hitter for a while, and Thomas appears to be their best option. The veteran outfielder was red-hot before the trade but that all came to a screeching hault after arriving in Cleveland. Thomas' tenure with the Guardians got off to a very, very, very slow start.

9/02/24 Cleveland Guardians Land Brutal Take For This Trade Deadline Decision. The Cleveland Guardians went into the July 30 MLB trade deadline with a couple of major areas of need: starting pitching and another bat, particularly in the outfield. Well, the Guardians made moves to address both of those fronts, acquiring outfielder Lane Thomas in a deal with the Washington Nationals and swinging a trade for San Francisco Giants right-hander Alex Cobb. While the jury is still out on Cobb, who made two rather pedestrian starts, went on the 15-day injured list, and then returned with a pretty strong showing this past Sunday, the early returns on the Thomas trade have been rather awful. Mike Axisa of CBS Sports placed Cleveland's decision to trade for Thomas in his "ouch" section of the best and worst MLB trade deadline moves, and it's hard to argue with his take.

8/31/24 Cleveland Guardians Could Add This Intriguing Outfielder For Playoff Run. The Cleveland Guardians attempted to bolster their outfield at the trade deadline by acquiring Lane Thomas in a deal with the Washington Nationals. The Guardians don't exactly have a lot of options as far as potential additions, but one interesting name has surfaced: Tommy Pham. The St. Louis Cardinals have designated Pham for assignment, giving Cleveland the opportunity to add him just before the playoff eligibility deadline at 11:59 pm ET on Saturday night.

8/22/24 Cleveland Guardians Named Top Fit For This Breakout All-Star Slugger. The Cleveland Guardians' biggest need is starting pitching, but they could certainly stand to add some more offense, too. The Guardians attempted to bolster their lineup at the MLB trade deadline by swinging a deal to acquire Lane Thomas from the Washington Nationals, but it hasn't exactly worked out. Now, Cleveland will be forced to punt to the offseason if it wants to bring in another bat, and MLB.com's Mark Feinsand sees a potential fit for the club: Baltimore Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander. Santander is preparing to hit the free-agent market this offseason, and Feinsand notes that the Orioles may not retain him due to their wealth of outfield talent.

8/16/24 Cleveland Guardians Outfielder Finding Success At Right Time. The Cleveland Guardians were on a seven-game losing streak just a week ago, and from the outside, it felt like the world was crumbling around them. One player in particular helped the Guardians turn it around and is getting hot at the perfect time. Brennan was optioned to Triple-A after the team acquired Lane Thomas at the trade deadline two weeks ago. Since returning to the major league lineup, Brennan has been Cleveland's hottest hitter.

8/11/24 Should Cleveland Guardians Be Concerned About Lane Thomas' Production Since Trade?. The Cleveland Guardians have been desperate for another reliable, major league-caliber, right-handed outfield bat to fill that void in their lineup. The organization didn't let the trade deadline go by without obtaining one, as they acquired Lane Thomas from the Washington Nationals. Should the Guardians be concerned about the production from their most recent acquisition? Thomas has always been his best when facing left-handed pitching.
