8/17/23 Julio Rodriguez has 5 hits, 5 RBIs to rally Mariners past Royals. Julio Rodriguez went 5-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs, leading the Seattle Mariners' come-from-behind win over the host Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Thursday afternoon. In the eighth inning, Rodriguez blasted reliever Carlos Hernandez's (1-8) first pitch 438 feet beyond the left-field bullpen for a three-run home run, his 20th, giving the Mariners a 5-4 lead. Rodriguez opened the scoring with a two-out RBI hit in the second inning, and also broke a 1-all tie with a sixth-inning double.

7/19/23 Miguel Cabrera bids farewell to KC in series finale. Cabrera, who is retiring after this season, delivered the game-winning single in a 3-2 victory in what could be his final appearance in Kansas City. Cabrera came to the plate in the sixth inning against Carlos Hernandez and knocked the right-hander's 100 mph fastball into center field on the fifth pitch of the at-bat. The RBI was just the 15th of the season for Cabrera, who is wrapping up a stellar 21-year career that includes 3,131 hits and 508 homers.

6/11/23 Royals vs. Orioles Sunday game thread. The Royals look to avoid getting swept for the sixth time this year (conversely they've only won three series) and their first winless road trip (they had a winless homestand already this year). Carlos Hernandez will serve as the opener with Mike Mayers expected to pitch the bulk innings. The odds don't seem to favor them as not only do they not have a true starter, but the Orioles will counter with their de facto ace, Kyle Gibson. After a down year-and-a-half in Philadelphia, the 36-year-old right-hander has rebounded in a big way for Baltimore.

5/19/22 Gamethread: White Sox at Royals. In fact, not scoring at least a run per inning would be bad. That’s because Kansas City is starting Carlos Hernandez, who has given up more runs this year than any pitcher in the majors, and sports a 9.11 ERA. And it’s not like the bad numbers are because of one or two bad outings, either — although giving up nine runs to Colorado his last time out was particularly awful, even for him.

5/01/22 Bobby Witt Jr. Scratched From Lineup as KC Royals Face New York Yankees. The Kansas City Royals have dropped both of their first two games against the New York Yankees and while a series tie or win are both out of the question, the team can come away with a win in the finale on Sunday if things break right. On Saturday night, starter Carlos Hernandez walked five batters in four innings of work. He gave up three runs in the process, which was all New York needed to come away with the win.

8/30/21 Salvador Perez's Hot Week Carried the Royals. Perhaps the most encouraging thing from the Royals this week is the continued success of pitchers Carlos Hernandez and Daniel Lynch. In two starts last week, Lynch managed to go 9.2 innings with two earned runs and nine strikeouts. A few too many walks kept him from going deeper into each game, but he managed to work around trouble in both starts.
