3/21/24	Tigers get roster down to 34; Keston Hiura, Trey Wingenter among 6 players cut Thursday. Lakeland, Fla. — The roster is down to 34 players after another round of cuts Thursday morning. The Tigers re-assigned pitchers Trey Wingenter and Andrew Vasquez, catcher Anthony Bemboom, infielders Keston Hiura and Ryan Vilade and outfielder Bligh Madris to minor-league camp. All those players had successful camps. Hiura, a non-roster first baseman, slashed .323/.353/.613 with a pair of home runs and a .966 OPS. He can opt out of his minor-league deal with the Tigers, though earlier he said, “We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.” Madris slashed .350/.519/.700, also with a pair of home runs and a 1.2 OPS. DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers optioned right-handed reliever Trey Wingenter to Triple-A Toledo to make way for the arrival of new Andrew Vasquez. The Tigers claimed Vasquez off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday . The 29-year-old left-hander is 2-1 with a 2.27 ERA in 39 2/3 innings this year with the Phillies. “He's someone we feel can attack both lefties and righties, but specifically lefties.
