9/12/24 Mets hope Pete Alonso's sacrifice fly will help him end brutal slump. Pete Alonso went hitless in a dozen at-bats in Toronto, but his final plate appearance of the series may have provided some encouragement. Down 0-2 to right-hander Chad Green in a tie game, the first baseman took a pair of sliders off the plate to even the count before delivering the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the Mets' dramatic win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday. It came in a game in which Alonso was bumped down to fifth in the lineup for the 10th time this season. 3 Pete Alonso hits a sacrifice fly ball during the Mets' win over the Blue Jays on Sept. 11, 2024. 9/07/24 What if Cincinnati Reds could add Polar Bear to middle of order? 'That would be insane'. New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso is a free agent after this season and could quickly command more than the Cincinnati Reds would offer. But what if?

9/06/24 New York Mets Predicted to Re-Sign Homegrown Superstar. The New York Mets will have some tough upcoming decisions to make with the offseason approaching in less than two months. First baseman Pete Alonso has made it clear on numerous occasions that he wants to remain with the Mets long-term. Alonso turned down a contract extension offer of seven-years, $158 million around the 2023 All-Star break, but the Mets were led by former GM Billy Eppler at the time and Alonso was repped by Apex. Now, Alonso is represented by super agent Scott Boras and the Mets have president of baseball operations David Stearns leading the charge.

It was the second time the first baseman wasn't able to come through in a critical situation against the Red Sox, as Alonso also struck out with the bases loaded with no one out in the bottom of the first. https://x.com/SNYtv/status/1831506799532388472 3 Pete Alonso was miffed after his eighth-inning strikeout. 9/01/24 Alonso and Winker hit consecutive HRs as Mets hand White Sox team record-tying 106th loss. Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning and the New York Mets beat the skidding White Sox 5-3, handing Chicago its 106th loss to tie a franchise record. 8/30/24 MLB's projected qualifying offer revealed — and how it could impact Yankees and Mets. The qualifying offer — almost certain to be extended to looming free-agent stars such as Pete Alonso and Juan Soto — currently projects at $21.2 million, The Post has learned. This is based on initial projections by the league. MLB and the Players Association do not finalize the qualifying offer — which is based on the mean salary of the top 125 paid players from the current season — until October. But these initial projections are that it will be a record at a little over $21 million with the current expectation being just about $21.2 million. The previous record high was last offseason at $20.325 million. The increase is 4.3 percent, which is better than the 3.4 percent from 2022 ($19.65 million)

8/28/24 Pete Alonso Ties New York Mets Legend on Franchise's Home Run Leaderboard. Pete Alonso did more than kickstart the New York Mets' offense when he went yard against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. The first baseman got his team on the board with a 383-foot solo home run to right-center in the second inning, setting the Mets up to take an 8-0 lead by the top of the fifth. Arizona finally got on the board with a pair of homers in the seventh, but New York still won 8-3. Alonso is now batting .245 with 28 home runs, 72 RBI, an .801 OPS and a 2.2 WAR this season.

8/28/24 Pete Alonso, Mets look to flex muscles vs. Diamondbacks. Pete Alonso is slated to become a free agent following the season, but he doesn't sound like a guy who wants to leave the New York Mets. Alonso further etched his name into franchise lore during Tuesday's win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Alonso smacked a solo homer to right center in the series-opening 8-3 victory. The homer was his 220th with the Mets, tying him for third in franchise history with boyhood idol Mike Piazza.

8/27/24 MLB Rumors: Why Mets' Pete Alonso Faces 'Biggest Skepticism' In Free Agency. Division and Wild Card races are heating up as teams desperately try to get into playoff position. Pete Alonso and the Mets are firmly in the playoff discussion right now as they are three games back of a Wild Card spot, so there is still a lot to play for.

8/24/24 Pete Alonso contract projections conflict potential Cubs interest. The Chicago Cubs are going to be in the market for power this offseason, both the pitching and hitting variety, as Jed Hoyer enters the final year of his contract as the team's President of Baseball Operations. Barring the Cubs going on a round to end the season, not impossible, Hoyer will be entering a 2025 season where the team has yet to reach the postseason since he took over at the top of baseball operations. Despite the urgency that would seemingly create for Hoyer this offseason, the early indications are that the Cubs will not shift their offseason spending strategy. The Cubs will not jump ahead of the market this offseason to sign the top free agents but rather, the team will hope that a free agent's asking price is high to the point where the market dries up as the offseason continues to the point where the Cubs can make an advantageous offer.

8/23/24 Mets Could Reportedly Go Against This Philosophy For Pete Alonso in Free Agency. The New York Mets have a crucial decision looming with the offseason approaching in the next two and a half months. Franchise cornerstone first baseman Pete Alonso is set to become a free agent this winter, and the question remains whether he will stay in Queens for the foreseeable future or depart for another team. Alonso, 29, is seeking a massive long-term deal of at least $200 million, per multiple reports. Surely, Mets billionaire owner Steve Cohen can afford to dish a contract of this magnitude out to his star slugger; but will this be going against the organization's philosophy?

8/23/24 What Keith Hernandez thinks about the Mets' present and his future in the booth. Keith Hernandez checked in with Sports+ this week and gave his thoughts on Pete Alonso's season, the Mets' postseason chances and his future in the SNY booth, perhaps with a new partner added to the future mix. The interview has been lightly edited for clarity. NYP: In what has been an underwhelming season by his standards, do you think Pete Alonso's looming free agency is weighing on him? KH: I've got to believe that it is. Pete has just been pull-happy all year. He's pulling the breaking ball. Pete's an emotional player, and it's been a struggle for him — it's pretty plain. Where would the Mets be if he was having his normal season? But he can make everybody forget about it. Everybody has forgotten
