Quijada normally said mid-90's and when he woke up the next morning, something felt wrong. By May 2, he received a second opinion that led to Tommy John surgery. 5/02/23 Angels reliever José Quijada has ligament damage, will get second opinion. Jose Quijada got a discouraging diagnosis on his sore elbow, leading the Angels to concern that the left-hander might be lost for the season. Manager Phil Nevin said the first evaluation showed “some damage to the ligament,” and that Quijada will get a second opinion to determine if he needs surgery. “The news wasn't great from the MRI but sometimes those can be misleading,” Nevin said. Quijada briefly emerged as one of the Angels' ninth-inning options in April, but he struggled for a couple of outings, including one last week in which he threw an 89 mph fastball.

4/29/23 Angels place LHP Jose Quijada (elbow) on IL. The Los Angeles Angels placed late-inning left-hander Jose Quijada on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation and selected the contract of right-hander Chris Devenski from Triple-A Salt Lake. To make room for Devenski on the 40-man roster, catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day IL. Quijada, who had been sharing ninth-inning duties with right-hander Carlos Estevez, struggled of late by giving up a combined seven runs (six earned) over his last two outings. Quijada, 27, had four saves over his first eight outings but saw his ERA rise to 6.00 in recent days.

4/29/23 Angels bullpen becomes even thinner following Jose Quijada injury. The Los Angeles Angels were dealt another big injury blow. Jose Quijada is headed to the Injured List with a sore elbow and Chris Devenski is taking his place. Devenski was signed by the Angels this offseason to a minor league deal, and will now get his shot in the majors. At one point in time, Devenski was an all-star for Houston.

8/15/22 Jose Quijada is the favorite to be the Angels' next closer. ANAHEIM ? Jose Quijada is in line to succeed Raisel Iglesias as the Angels’ closer. Pitching for the second consecutive day, Quijada closed the books on the Minnesota Twins with a 1-2-3 ninth inning Sunday. It was his third save of the season.

5/29/22 Angels activate LHP Jose Quijada from injured list. The Los Angeles Angels activated left-hander Jose Quijada from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He landed on the IL on April 10 with a right oblique strain after facing just one batter this season in the April 7 season opener against the Houston Astros. Quijada, 26, pitched in three games for Class-A Inland Empire on a rehab assignment and gave up one hit in three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

4/10/22 Angels put LHP Jose Quijada (oblique) on IL. The Los Angeles Angels placed left-hander Jose Quijada on the 10-day injured list on Sunday due to a right oblique strain. The Angels said the move was retroactive to Friday. Los Angeles also promoted left-hander Brian Moran to the 28-man roster and designated right-hander Kyle Tyler for assignment.
