Field Level Media Aug 24, 2024, 07:25 PM Email Print Open Extended Reactions The Washington Nationals placed center fielder Alex Call on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a foot injury, while catcher Drew Millas was recalled from Triple-A Rochester. Call, 29, was diagnosed with a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot. In 30 games this season, Call was batting .343 with a .425 on-base percentage and had three home runs with 14 RBIs. Over three career seasons with the Cleveland Guardians (2022) and Nationals, Call is a .231 hitter with 16 home runs and 65 RBIs in 205 games. Millas, 26, was 5-for-30 (.167) in 11 games for the Nationals over multiple major league stints earlier

Cristopher Sánchez pitched his second complete game of the season, and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Washington Nationals 5-1 on Saturday night. Sánchez faced two batters over the minimum, allowing two hits. The only blemish in his outing was a solo homer by Alex Call to lead off the fourth inning. Call hit a 1-1 slider into the front row seats in right-center field. Sánchez struck out four and did not issue a walk as he picked up his ninth win of the season after losing four of his previous five decisions. The Phillies won their fourth straight.

Outfielder James Wood, the Washington Nationals' No. 1 prospect, left Triple-A Rochester's game Thursday with lower body soreness. The Washington Post's Andrew Golden was first to report the injury. Wood was 0-for-1 with a walk and a groundout when he left the game. Alex Call replaced Wood in center field in the bottom of the fifth inning.
