11/05/24 Houston Astros Shockingly Release Their Past World Series Champion. It was known that some tough decisions were going to have to be made by the Houston Astros' front office this offseason, and the first one has come in. According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, they have outrighted starting pitcher Jose Urquidy off their 40-man roster which made him a free agent after he cleared waivers. The 2022 World Series champion has been with the organization since 2015 when he was signed as an international free agent. Urquidy had four outings and one start, giving up just one earned run across his 10 innings pitched, including when he became the first Mexican-born pitcher to win a World Series game since Fernando Valenzuela.

9/03/24 Houston Astros Star Rookie Wins Impressive Award After Dominant Month. Coming into this season, there was never really a thought the Houston Astros would have to utilize their farm system to fill out their starting rotation. With Jose Urquidy expected to be available to start the year, and the injured duo of Luis Garcia and Lance McCullers Jr. projected to return following the All-Star break, that gave the Astros eight potential options on paper coming down the stretch. As Houston fans already know, things didn't quite work out that way. Urquidy never threw a pitch, J.P. France and Cristian Javier underwent season-ending surgeries, and Garcia and McCullers never became healthy enough for the team to activate them.

5/31/24 Houston Astros Top Pitching Prospect Finally Meeting Expectations. There were a lot of pitchers for the Houston Astros who were thrown into the fire early this season. The Astros were constantly being shelled by opposing lineups, giving their own normally prolific offense no chance to win them games while they were dealing with these issues. This was a huge reason why they got off to such a slow start and put themselves in a major hole regarding their postseason chances. Based on some recent news coming out about injured starters Jose Urquidy and Cristian Javier, it seems like Houston might have to brace themselves for being without those two for an extended period of time.

5/24/24 What Will the Houston Astros Rotation Look Like After MLB Trade Deadline?. The Houston Astros have began their season in the most uncharacteristic manner possible - a losing record. Much of that can be contributed to the starting rotation, a unit that has experienced the loss of over five starters due to injury. The Astros are getting back on track, having won seven of their last 10 games Houston is now just 4.5 games back from the Seattle Mariners for the American League West lead and the final Wild Card spot. Jose Urquidy, Luis Garcia and Lance McCullers Jr. could soon return and each will have their opportunity to make the case to stick in the rotation.
