8/28/24 MLB Rumors: Cubs to explore catcher market in offseason. The Chicago Cubs' catcher position is still a question mark long-term. Miguel Amaya's recent hot streak, though, may help the team decide its plans. Chicago manager Craig Counsell sounded off about Amaya, who has slashed .352/.398/.593 with five homers over his last 101 plate appearances, via The Athletic's Sahadev Sharma. “He's got on a good stretch now,” manager Craig Counsell said.

6/19/24 Cubs Swap Pair Of Veteran Catchers As Offensive Woes Worsen. The Chicago Cubs have had one of Major League Baseball's most lethargic offenses this season. Any lineup alteration has the potential to improve the situation and on Wednesday, Chicago brought in some reinforcements. The catching position has been a huge issue for the Cubs all year. 25-year-old Miguel Amaya has just a .517 OPS, but figures to still be the starter.

5/25/24 Chicago Cubs Linked to All-Star Game MVP By MLB Insider as Potential Fit. The Chicago Cubs have an opportunity to take advantage of a very weak National League Central this season. Plenty is going right for the Cubs but there is always room for improvement, even if at the margins. One area that Chicago could look to upgrade is the catcher's position, a position that is currently occupied by Miguel Amaya and Yan Gomes who own an OPS+ of 52 and 29, respectively. An OPS+ of 100 is the average for a Major League hitter.

5/06/24 MLB's Rob Manfred weighs in on controversial Mets' Pete Alonso play. The controversial call that ended the Mets' 1-0 loss to the Cubs last Wednesday made waves across the league last week. Neither the plate umpire nor the replay official called player interference on Chicago catcher Miguel Amaya for having his foot on the plate as he tagged out Pete Alonso at home to end the game with a double-play. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred commented on the play APSE Commissioners Meetings at MLB headquarters in New York on Monday. “We feel very comfortable that the rule was applied correctly,” Manfred said.

3/07/24 Chicago Cubs fans are sharing this feeling about the team in 2024. Recently, I wrote about the fact that I have faith in the Chicago Cubs' plan at first base. Over the last couple of weeks, we've found data that makes the case that Miguel Amaya and Christopher Morel both have the ability to become future stars for the Cubs. It's different when the fanbase as a whole, mirrors that sentiment and that was proven to be the case in a recent survey taken of baseball fans that found that Cubs fans are more excited for 2024 than any other fanbase in the NL Central.

2/04/24 Carter Hawkins reveals Chicago Cubs plans for first base. Chicago Cubs general manager Carter Hawkins joined 670 The Score's Inside the clubhouse on Saturday morning and one of the main takeaways was that the team appears to be expecting Miguel Amaya to take another step forward in his development. It would seem that the Cubs are expecting a transition from veteran Yan Gomes to Amaya this season in terms of who the everyday catcher will be and that may be a similar goal that the team has for Michael Busch. When the Cubs acquired Busch in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers last month, it was quickly identified that the top prospect was going to get an extended runway at being the team's first baseman during the 2024 season.

6/13/23 Cubs rookie catcher Miguel Amaya earning praise from pitchers, focused on growth. SAN FRANCISCO — Cubs rookie catcher Miguel Amaya tried to anticipate each pitch call before veteran right-hander Kyle Hendricks punched it into the PitchCom device attached to his belt on his right hip. “I was preparing myself to give a good target,” Amaya said in a conversation with the Sun-Times, “to know what he was trying to do in that moment.” Catching Hendricks as he carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning of the Cubs' 4-0 victory Saturday against the Giants was another chapter in Amaya's whirlwind introduction to the major leagues. In the final stages of his comeback from a string of injuries, Amaya got to know the pitching staff in spring training.
