9/17/24 Could Guardians Turn This Starter Into A Bullpen Weapon?. The Cleveland Guardians were expecting Triston McKenzie to play a key role in their rotation at the beginning of the season. McKenzie has started appearing in a different role for the Columbus Clippers as the one-time starter has started coming out of the bullpen as a multi-innings arm. McKenzie has made two relief appearances in September.

7/25/24 Chris Antonetti talks trade deadline, Triston McKenzie and Logan Allen, Kyle Manzardo: Guardians takeaways. Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti checked in with reporters ahead of Tuesday's Major League Baseball trade deadline and was asked about a variety of topics, including the progress of starting pitchers Triston McKenzie and Logan Allen at Triple-A Columbus, Kyle Manzardo's progress in the minors and how the club is approaching the deadline from a starting pitching perspective. Here is some of what Antonetti had to say.

7/18/24 Mariners need more than active trade deadline to outrun Astros in AL West. On the precipice of the second half, have the Mariners already hit it? The Mariners had just completed a statement three-game sweep of the World Series champion Texas Rangers, pelting their division competition with superior starting pitching. Of course, the Mariners' momentum continued in Cleveland, as they mauled starter Triston McKenzie for four earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings in an impressive 8-5 win. On the same day, Seattle simultaneously reached its best record (44-31) and largest division lead (10 games over both Houston and Texas).

7/13/24 This Guardians Starter Is Quietly Pitching Valuable Innings For Cleveland. There's been so much talk surrounding the Cleveland Guardinas' pitching roation over the last few weeks. Two-thirds of their rotation (Triston McKenzie and Logan Allen) are at Triple-A reworking their mechanics, and those at the big league level are still leaving something to be desired on the mound. Cookie pitched 5.0 solid innings on Friday night, giving up one earned run and six hits while striking out three batters. This start is another in a recent trend for the veteran pitcher.

7/08/24 Behind The Cleveland Guardians Decision To Option Logan Allen. The Cleveland Guardians have made several tough moves over the last week. On June 30, Triston McKenzie was optioned to Triple-A, and the team followed that up with an announcement that Logan Allen would also be joining him in Columbus. Stephen Vogt touched on why the organization felt now was the best time to option Allen. The team didn't just send Allen down to Triple-A without anything specific to work on.

6/30/24 Seth Lugo, Royals chase series win against Guardians. After Saturday's 7-2 win, the visiting Cleveland Guardians will try to earn a series split against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon. Cleveland's big division lead allows time to resolve rotation issues, with Triston McKenzie in particular. The right-hander's command issues have become more acute, leading to a poor outing in Friday's 10-3 loss when he walked three and surrendered two homers in 2 2/3 innings, expanding his season totals to 49 walks and 19 home runs allowed -- both major league highs. In his past three starts, McKenzie allowed 12 runs and five homers while walking 11 in 8 2/3 innings.

6/28/24 Guardians endure another early exit from Triston McKenzie in 10-3 loss to Royals. Triston McKenzie in two of his last three starts hasn't pitched through the third inning. In the other start he lasted three innings. The three homers he allowed in those three innings probably meant that he wasn't long for that game rain or shine. Friday night McKenzie packed a lot of action into his 2 1/3 innings at Kauffman Stadium.

6/19/24 Cleveland Guardians' Starting Pitching Is Even Worse Than You Think. The Cleveland Guardians lost their third straight game on Tuesday night, falling to the Seattle Mariners by a score of 8-5. Guardians pitcher Triston McKenzie lasted just 2.1 innings in the defeat, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks. It was just the latest putrid outing for a Cleveland starting pitching staff that has been among the worst in baseball over the first half of the 2024 MLB season. Yes, the Shane Bieber injury definitely threw a wrench into things, but even if he were healthy and available, the starting rotation would still be a problem for Cleveland.

5/22/24 Guardians hope Triston McKenzie continues recent roll vs. Mets. After a rather rough start to the season, Triston McKenzie appears to have hit his stride for the Cleveland Guardians. Looking to continue his recent run of success, the right-hander tries to help the Guardians win their sixth straight and complete a three-game series sweep of the visiting Mets on Wednesday. McKenzie (2-3, 3.23 ERA) went 1-2 with a 6.23 ERA and failed to complete six innings in any of his first three 2024 starts. "He continues to get better and better each time out," Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said.

5/19/24 Minnesota Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson aims to inspire more Black pitchers to reach MLB. There was some extra excitement for Simeon Woods Richardson before his start Friday night in Cleveland. For the first time he can remember in his professional career, since he was drafted in 2018, he faced another Black starting pitcher. Woods Richardson and Cleveland's Triston McKenzie are two of only nine active Black starting pitchers in the major leagues, which includes one on the injured list. "You don't really see that many Black baseball players in general, let alone two starting pitchers," said the 23-year-old Woods Richardson, who has posted a 2.97 ERA through six starts this season.
