8/29/24 Yankees' struggles with runners in scoring position sink to new low. The Yankees had a chance to cap off a comeback in the ninth inning against the Nationals on Wednesday night, but for the second game in a row, they failed to produce the big hit they needed with the game on the line. Two Yankees reached with nobody out in the top of the ninth against Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan, bringing the tying run up to the plate.

8/28/24 Umpire Tony Randazzo Made One of the Worst Calls of the 2024 MLB Season. The Washington Nationals beat the New York Yankees 5–2 Wednesday night, and got a little help from behind the plate. In the top of the ninth inning, home plate umpire Tony Randazzo made one of the worst ball-strike calls you'll see all season and it helped the Nationals in a tough spot. Nats closer Kyle Finnegan opened the ninth inning with a 5–2 lead, but surrendered a single to Anthony Volpe before walking Jazz Chisholm Jr. to bring the tying run to the plate with no outs. Oswaldo Cabrera stepped in, replacing DJ LeMahieu. With Finnegan reeling, Cabrera was ready to pounce but the first offering was an 86 mph splitter that missed the plate by a mile. Regardless, Randazzo called it a strike.

8/03/24 Luis García Jr. triple shy of cycle as Nationals beat Brewers 6-4 to stop 5-game losing streak. Luis García Jr. was a triple shy of the cycle in his second straight three-hit game, Kyle Finnegan got a four-out save in his first outing since blowing a four-run lead and the Washington Nationals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-4 on Saturday to stop a five-game losing streak. Travis Blankenhorn hit a two-run double on a ball that left fielder Jackson Chourio allowed to drop behind him at the base of the wall during a two-out rally as Washington took a 4-0, first-inning lead. Aaron Civale (2-8) allowed five runs and seven hits in four innings, dropping to 0-2 in five starts since Milwaukee acquired him from Tampa Bay on on June 3.

7/30/24 MLB rumors: Nationals 'asking the moon' in Kyle Finnegan trade talks despite meltdown. The 2024 MLB trade deadline has been a busy one with multiple teams making big moves ahead of the Tuesday deadline. One player who is still available as of Tuesday morning is Washington Nationals reliever Kyle Finnegan. The Nationals have been expected to be active in the sellers market with Finnegan's name drawing plenty of interest. Finnegan has had a big year in DC, but he gave up five runs and five hits with a pair of home runs in just a third of an inning on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

7/09/24 Baseball’s King of Pitch-Clock Violations. Nationals reliever Kyle Finnegan has been dinged for more time infractions by himself than the full pitching staffs of nearly half of MLB teams.

6/29/24 With so many teams still in the hunt, baseball's trade deadline becomes much more complicated. The only obvious sellers at this point are the Angels, Athletics, Marlins, Rockies, and White Sox. Of that group, the Rockies are notoriously difficult to deal with, and Angels owner Arte Moreno could well decide to go in a different direction or no direction at all. A common theme among executives is wondering where their trade partners will come from. Washington could move closer Kyle Finnegan, setup men Dylan Floro and Hunter Harvey, and corner outfielders Lane Thomas and Jesse Winker to add more young talent to an already impressive core.

4/10/24 Giants search for solutions with men on base vs. Nats. The Nationals hope to continue the San Francisco Giants' home-stadium frustrations when Washington goes for a series sweep on Wednesday afternoon. Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan sent the Giants and their fans home disappointed for the second straight day when he pitched out of a ninth-inning jam to preserve a 5-3 win on Tuesday. San Francisco is 2-for-33 (.061) with runners in scoring position over the first five games of its homestand.

11/09/23 MLB rumors: Nationals getting trade calls on two relief pitchers amid roster rebuild. Since winning the World Series in 2019, the Washington Nationals have not been back to the playoffs. In the midst of a substantial rebuild, the Nationals could accelerate the process by swinging a trade or two on a pair of their most prized relievers. Washington has been receiving trade calls on Kyle Finnegan and Hunter Harvey, via Jon Morosi of the MLB Network. General manager Mike Rizzo confirmed that the phones have been ringing and added that while business is open, the Nationals aren't the ones starting the call.

11/08/23 Washington Nationals news & notes: Mike Rizzo at the 2023 MLB GM Meetings + more.... Washington Nationals' GM Mike Rizzo listened when teams called about Kyle Finnegan (and other Nats, like Lane Thomas) at the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline, but ultimately, he explained, offers, “never reached the bar we set for each player.” Rizzo and Co. from the front office in D.C. are out in Scottsdale, AZ this week for the 2023 GM Meetings, and he was asked about potentially trading Finnegan (or fellow reliever Hunter Harvey) this winter, with the market for relief arms expected to be active, but he said while there is interest, there's no pressing need to deal either reliever. “Their names have come up in some different conversations,” Rizzo explained in a spot with MLB Network host Jon Morosi from Scottsdale.
