3/17/23 Amazing Cooperstown Connection For Pittsburgh Pirates' Crowe. Pittsburgh Pirates' pitcher Wil Crowe has a really neat connection to Cooperstown, and a baseball hall of famer, too. With less than a dozen Grapefruit League games remaining until wins and losses count for real, when the Pittsburgh Pirates open their season on March 30th in Cincinnati, Crowe is anxious for his second full MLB campaign to get underway. In training camp since February 15th, reporting day for all pitchers and catchers at Pirate City in Bradenton, Florida, Crowe has been all business.

9/23/22 Bullpen, walks sink Pirates in 6-5 loss to Cubs as losing streak hits 8. With the Pirates clinging to a two-run lead and Wilson out of the game after 89 pitches, the game first rumbled off the tracks in the sixth inning, starting with Wil Crowe walking three of the first five hitters he faced. The final one of those, pinch-hitter Franmil Reyes, brought home a run. The issue was not solved whenever manager Derek Shelton brought in Manny Banuelos to pitch to Cubs shortstop Zach McKinstry, as the Pirates lefty followed with a free pass of his own to tie the game at 4.

9/21/22 Pirate who gave up 60th HR to Judge has past Yankees tie. Baseball history is full of interesting stories throughout the generations, and Aaron Judge’s 60th homer in the Yankees’ 9-8 comeback win over the Pirates is no different. Pirates reliever Wil Crowe — who gave up Judge’s 60th homer in the ninth inning which tied Babe Ruth — is related to a former Yankee who played with “the Bambino. Crowe’s great-great uncle, Hall of Famer Red Ruffing, was Ruth’s teammate on the Yankees in the 1930s.

8/23/22 Jason Mackey: Pirates' biggest offseason priority has to be reinforcing young pitching staff. As a handful of position players went through fielding drills and others took batting practice indoors, Wil Crowe and Mitch Keller talked like two Pirates fans at a corner bar around happy hour on Monday. While stretching and throwing in left field, Crowe and Keller began discussing the upcoming offseason, specifically which players they hoped the Pirates might add. "We were just talking about who might be a good fit," Keller said.

8/17/22 Pirates players have NSFW response to Dennis Eckersley's criticism. Pirates pitcher Wil Crowe fires back at Red Sox broadcaster Dennis Eckersley Dennis Eckersley calls baseball like he sees it. If good things are happening, he’ll tell you about them in thrilling, jubilant fashion, but the same goes for bad ball; he doesn’t shy away from the truth. Understandably, the Hall of Famer’s directness sometimes offends the parties he’s discussing.

8/03/22 Reynolds' leadoff HR in 9th powers Pirates past Brewers 8-7. Wil Crowe (4-6) struck out one without allowing a hit in the final 1 1/3 innings for Pittsburgh. 7/14/22 Anderson's two-run triple in 11th lifts Marlins past Pirates.

MIAMI (AP) — Brian Anderson atoned for a costly error with a two-run triple in the 11th inning and the Miami Marlins beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 Thursday.

Anderson originally was ruled to have been hit by a pitch from Wil Crowe (3-6), but the Pirates successfully challenged, saying it hit his bat first. Anderson then sent a drive to deep right center that scored Jesús Aguilar and Avisaíl García.

“At any point, you don’t shut it down,” Anderson said. “When I got hit by the pitch, I was ready to go on base. I just tried to focus on what’s in front of me. I was just thankful to have an opportunity to come up there and try to put barrel on the ball.”

Joey Wendle doubled, singled and walked for the Marlins, who had their second straight walk-off against Pittsburgh and split the four-game series.

“Hanging in there, that’s what we’ve been talking about and keep fighting until the (All-Star) break,” Miami manager Don Mattingly said.

Ben Gamel’s RBI double against Richard Bleier (2-1) in the top of the 11th put the Pirates ahead 2-1.

Pittsburgh tied it at 1 in the eighth on third baseman Anderson’s fielding error that scored Yoshi Tsutsugo from first. Tsutsugo reached on a two-out single against reliever Steven Okert. Anderson muffed Diego Castillo’s hard grounder and Tsutsugo raced home as the ball went into foul ground in left field.

“I definitely pride myself on my defense, so that’s something I have to keep working on and keep getting better at,” Anderson said.

Wendle broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double in the fifth. He was not in the original lineup but entered after Jon Berti left with an injury.

Billy Hamilton hit a two-out single and scored from first on Wendle’s line drive to right. Hamilton originally was...

4/22/22 Pirates back in win column with 4-3 defeat of Cubs. Both Wil Crowe and Dillon Peters continued their scoreless starts to the season, while Daniel Vogelbach and Yoshi Tsutsugo drove in two runs apiece to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. Austin just broke down Crowe and Peters yesterday, and that was perfect timing, as Crowe continues to dominate out of the bullpen.

Anderson also finished with the lowest WHIP of any Pittsburgh starter, with a 1.200.
