7/24/24 Finally feeling good, Twins right-hander Justin Topa headed to St. Paul. A large handful of Twins players had trouble getting back to Minnesota after the all-star break. After days of driving to and from airports, and waiting hours inside them, the Twins right-hander decided to wait it out and do some more rehab work in Fort Myers and on Tuesday night, made his first appearance in a game since May 5 at Class AAA St. Paul. Topa, battling tendinitis in his right knee since spring training, threw a hitless inning Tuesday night for Class A Fort Myers and expects to pitch again in St. Paul on Friday.

2/18/24 Recently-acquired Twins relievers settling in to new environment. Justin Topa thought he got traded late in the offseason. Then he met the man that lockers next to him in the Twins' spring training clubhouse. Steven Okert, his wife and the couple's dogs were driving through Alabama on their way to Jupiter, Fla., where the Miami Marlins train, when Okert got word that he had been traded. At least, after driving all the way out from Arizona, he got traded to a team that trains in Florida.

2/06/24 Mariners acquire Gregory Santos from White Sox for pair of prospects and draft pick. After a recent trade sent valued leverage reliever Justin Topa to the Twins, the Mariners filled Topa's spot in their bullpen by acquiring a reliever from Minnesota's American League Central rivals. On Saturday, Seattle sent a pair of prospects — right-handed reliever Prelander Berroa and outfielder Zach DeLoach — and the No. 69 pick (a competitive balance B pick) in the 2024 draft to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for right-handed reliever Gregory Santos. "Gregory is coming off of a season in which he established himself as one of the most exciting young relievers in MLB," Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said in a statement.

1/29/24 Mariners Land Jorge Polanco in Trade With Twins. While the clubs have yet to confirm the deal, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports that Polanco is heading to the Mariners in exchange for four players—reliever Justin Topa, righty Anthony DeSclafani and prospects Gabriel Gonzalez and Darren Bowen—as well as cash. Polanco has been with the Twins his entire career, first called up to the majors in 2014. Knee and hamstring injuries kept Polanco bouncing on and off the injured list through the early part of the 2023 season, but he would ultimately wind up playing 80 games, hitting 14 home runs and 48 RBIs over that span.

9/27/23 Dusty Baker tired of Astros getting hit? His team hits Mariners more. In the second game of the Seattle Mariners' all-important series against the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, a pair of Astros had to wear some pitches from M's relievers. First, Justin Topa's initial pitch of the night was off the mark, and his sinker found the knee of Houston's Yanier Díaz to open the seventh inning. A couple innings later, Mariners fireballer Andrés Muñoz uncorked a 99 mph fastball on his own first pitch in the game, which hit Astros outfielder Chas McCormick square in the lower back.

6/16/23 Mariners' scrapheap bullpen has found another late-blooming gem in Justin Topa. The Mariners have built one of the most effective pitching staffs in Major League Baseball. If this was it, if his baseball career was coming to an abrupt end, Justin Topa had convinced himself he was content with that.

3/27/23 Drayer: A look at Mariners roster essentially set for opening day. With the Mariners optioning relief pitcher Justin Topa to Triple-A Tacoma and re-assigning infielder Mason McCoy to minor league camp Monday, the spring roster now stands at 28. Heading into camp, there was the possibility there could be a bit of a surprise with the bullpen – perhaps the Mariners would go with a lefty or someone who flashed something different.

9/05/21 Milwaukee Brewers roster moves: Justin Topa placed on 60-day IL, Hoby Milner optioned to Nashville, Jandel Gustave and Miguel Sanchez return. The rough return to the field for Justin Topa hit another major roadbump. After leaving Friday night’s game against the Cardinals injured, the Brewers evaluated him on Saturday and determined he has a signficant injury to his flexor tendon. While the full extent of the damage is not known, it’s significant enough that it will end his season, and the Brewers placed him on the 60-day IL on Saturday.

Now the Milwaukee Brewers reliever is facing the prospect of possibly having a third such procedure to continue pitching. 9/01/21 Daniel Vogelbach, Justin Topa and Luke Maile are your Brewers September call-ups. September call-ups aren’t as fun as they used to be, now that rosters are limited to 28 players instead of 40. You’re more likely to see veterans who have already been in the majors get the call this time of year now, as opposed to those initial cups of coffee for prospects or career minor leaguers getting their big break. That’s the case for the Brewers this year, as they try to build up their depth while a playoff spot seems extremely likely with a month to go.

3/30/21 Topa to miss extended stretch. Milwaukee Brewers reliever Justin Topa has a flexor strain in his right elbow and will miss at least half the season, another setback for the right-hander who’s had two Tommy John reconstructive surgeries. Topa is seeking a second opinion but the current plan is rehabilitation, manager Craig Counsell said Monday before an exhibition game at the home of the Texas Rangers.
