4/22/24 Picking Up Good Vibrations With MLB's Geno Suarez. When third baseman Eugenio “Geno” Suárez sprints from the Arizona Diamondbacks dugout onto the field, he might initially be confused for Khal Drogo of Game of Thrones fame, albeit in polyester instead of leather. The 32-year-old Venezuelan was acquired from the Mariners on November 22, 2023, for Diamondbacks relief pitcher Carlos Vargas and catcher Seby Zavala.

2/29/24 Could Seattle Mariners' next bullpen 'find' be Jackson Kowar?. The competition for the Seattle Mariners' bullpen spots is on. On Wednesday, we took a look at Carlos Vargas (story in the link below), who impressed in his first spring outing. On Thursday, it was Jackson Kowar who along with Collin Snider drew praise from manager Scott Servais after their outings the day before. 11/28/23 2023 Diamondbacks Reviews: #44 Carlos Vargas. After a season in which the D-backs bullpen averaged the second-slowest fastball velocity in the MLB, Mike Hazen made it a priority to increase that figure, and Carlos Vargas was one of the options brought on by the club to do that. In November 2022, the D-backs acquired Vargas for minor-leaguer Scott Carver and immediately added him to the 40-man roster with plans to have him start the year out of the bullpen.

11/16/22 Why the Diamondbacks traded for Carlos Vargas. As part of a series of roster moves made at the deadline to protect minor league players from the Rule 5 Draft, the Diamondbacks traded for RHP Carlos Vargas from the Cleveland Guardians. Vargas was added to the Guardians' 40-man roster last off-season, but after missing most of the year rehabbing from Tommy John surgery was caught in a roster crunch. The D-backs decided to take advantage of the situation, picking up the young fireballer in exchange for pitching prospect Ross Carver.
