9/11/24 Connor Wong Credits 2024 Breakout To 'Legend' Red Sox Catcher. The Boston Red Sox rolled into 2024 with two catchers on their Opening Day roster, but it has been Connor Wong who's taken the reins of the go-to role by shining the brightest during an impressive fourth season with the organization. Defensively, Wong has also been reliable, logging a .995 fielding percentage while also giving Boston scattered appearances at second and first base to fill its occasional infield voids.

9/05/24 Red Sox Starter Could Lose Role With Team Down Stretch With Cold Streak. The Boston Red Sox could have a tough difficult decision to make in the not-so-distant future. Connor Wong has shined for the Red Sox this season as the team's starting catcher but the club has No. 3 prospect Kyle Teel knocking on the door of the big leagues. The 2023 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft first-round draft pick has shined his first full professional season. Teel began the season with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs and appeared in 84 games and slashed .299/.390/.462 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs.

8/20/24 As Red Sox aim for first win vs. Astros, Connor Wong (.641 August OPS) gets breather. The Red Sox will try to shake off Monday's brutal loss Tuesday night against the Astros, and they'll do it without Connor Wong in the lineup. With Danny Jansen catching for the third time in four days, Wong is out of Boston's lineup for just the second time in the last 11 games (he was the designated hitter Saturday and Monday). The rest comes at a good time for Wong, who has caught 77 games for the Sox so far and has been struggling at the plate lately. Entering Monday, Wong is hitting .258 with only five extra-base hits and a .641 OPS in 63 August plate appearances.

7/23/24 Red Sox again hoping for Connor Wong spark as they face fourth lefty in 5 days (lineup). (AP Photo/David Zalubowski) AP By Chris Cotillo | ccotillo@MassLive.com As the Red Sox try to snap a four-game losing streak Tuesday night, they'll have to once again confront one of the weaknesses that has led them to their recent struggles. For the fourth time in five games since the All-Star break, Boston will face a left-handed starter, this time Colorado's Ty Blach. The Red Sox are now 12-18 against lefties this season after losing games started by Justin Wrobleski, James Paxton and Austin Gomber so far on their west coast trip. Boston's bats came alive late against Gomber on Monday,

7/12/24 Game 93: Royals at Red Sox lineups and notes. Just a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals is all that stands between the Red Sox and the All-Star break. It's way too soon to call this weekend pivotal, but both squads will enter the break very much in contention for the postseason. The Red Sox hold the last wild-card spot, one game ahead of the Royals. Here are the standings . The Sox have won 18 of their last 25 to climb the standings, pulling to within two games of the Yankees and 5½ of the first-place Orioles in the AL East after blanking Oakland, 7-0, on Thursday . The win marked the 13th time they had at least three home runs, with Connor Wong, Wilyer Abreu, and Masataka Yoshida all going deep. The Sox are 12-1 in those games.

7/11/24 Boston looks to pull away from KC before break. The Boston Red Sox look to go into the All-Star break on a high note as they begin a three-game home series against the Kansas City Royals on Friday. A 7-0 win over Oakland on Thursday moved the Red Sox back to 10 games above the .500 mark, was their eighth win in their last 10 games, and secured their third straight series victory. Connor Wong, Wilyer Abreu and Masataka Yoshida all socked home runs to highlight the team's 10-hit attack -- and 13th three-homer game of the season -- while All-Star righty Tanner Houck threw six shutout, two-hit innings to post his eighth win. Manager Alex Cora's club will look to continue their winning ways for one more series before next week's All-Star Game festivities in Arlington, Texas.

6/28/24 Connor Wong position buzz might suggest Red Sox are prepping for top prospect arrival. The emergence of Connor Wong has been one of the biggest — and best — surprises of the year for the Boston Red Sox. Wong is slashing .330/.390/.480 with a .870 OPS, seven homers and 29 RBI through 57 games. Wong is one of the fastest catchers in MLB and his athleticism translates well to each of his roles, although his defensive metrics have taken a hit since last season. Wong shuffled around the diamond during his time in the minor leagues.

6/27/24 Red Sox make 3 off day roster moves, will promote rookie lefty reliever Fri.. The Red Sox are off Thursday but still announced three roster moves ahead of a three-game series against the Padres — and they'll be making another Friday. Boston activated catcher Connor Wong, who exhausted his three-day stay on the paternity list and will be active for Friday's game, and optioned veteran catcher Tyler Heineman back to Triple-A Worcester. Additionally, the Sox sent righty reliever Isaiah Campbell back to the WooSox but didn't announce a corresponding move for the bullpen.

6/25/24 Is Connor Wong Best Return For Red Sox In Mookie Betts Trade?. Connor Wong has been putting together quite the campaign for the Boston Red Sox this season. In his last 15 games, the 28-year-old catcher has strung together a 13-game hitting streak with 17 hits including two home runs and 10 RBIs. Given the phenomenal streak Wong has been on, did he move ahead of Alex Verdugo as the centerpiece in the Red Sox's return for the Mookie Betts trade?

Connor Wong and Rob Refsnyder each hit two-run homers as the Boston Red Sox took the series from the Cincinnati Reds with a 7-4 victory on Sunday. 6/24/24 Connor Wong To Possibly Play More Positions With Red Sox. Red Sox catcher Connor Wong is not afraid to play multiple positions in the future with Boston. Wong currently is just working out at catcher, but he would be open to playing more positions. “I've pretty much played every position in my life,” Wong told MassLive's Chris Cotillo. With the Red Sox, Wong has played first, second and third base a number of times.

6/22/24 Red Sox's Connor Wong Continues To Build Impressive All-Star Campaign. A key goal for the Red Sox this season was to see which young players would continue their development, and Connor Wong has been one of the faces of that effort. Of course, Jarren Duran's lightning-quick athleticism flies off the TV screen, but Wong also has been making a case as one of Boston's cornerstone players. After Friday's loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, Wong leads qualified American League catchers with a 1.9 fWAR and a .360 batting average. The 28-year-old also is second in MLB in on-base percentage (.422), and he's third among major league catchers in wOBA (.403) and wRC+ (159).

6/10/24 With a refined swing and approach, Connor Wong has made an offensive breakthrough for the Red Sox. Wong has always been known for his surprising pop at the plate despite his size. “We know that Connor has the ability to impact the baseball, for him it's been two things,” noted Red Sox hitting coach Pete Fatse via text Monday. ”One, there's an emphasis on being as direct as possible with his swing path, which has led to more zone contact.” Wong's zone-contact percentage is up from 80.4 percent last year to 86.6 this year.

6/07/24 MLB Notebook: A major league scout weighs in on what he sees with Red Sox. Connor Wong (L) #12 and Ceddanne Rafaela #43 have been two positive contributors for the Red Sox this season. (Photo by Quinn Harris/Getty Images) Getty Images By Sean McAdam | sean.mcadam@masslive.com A veteran MLB scout saw the Red Sox for several recent series of late and was kind of enough to share his observations on the Boston roster: Overview : “I was skeptical coming into the season, without (Lucas) Giolito, then (Trevor) Story gets hurt, and (Triston) Casas goes down for a couple of months. Obviously, there was a lot of concern with those injuries. But I really do think the staff has done a good job getting them to play hard. They've had a lot of comeback wins. They don't quit.
