7/26/24 Red Sox Reportedly Showing Interest In Surprisingly Available Starter. The Boston Red Sox are looking for ways to bolster the back of the starting rotation and could get a deal done in the near future. Boston needs to add at least one starter over the next few days and certainly could do so. The Red Sox have had a hole in the rotation with Garrett Whitlock out but it doesn't seem like that will be the case for much longer. The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is just four days away and it would be shocking if Boston didn't get at least one deal done ahead of it.

7/19/24 Red Sox pitcher suffers setback during rehab assignment. The Boston Red Sox have had their fair share of injuries this year especially to their pitching staff this season with guys like Garrett Whitlock and Lucas Giolito missing the rest of the season and others missing time periodically. One pitcher who was expected to compete for a role with Boston in 2024 who's dealt with injuries all year is Bryan Mata, who was on a rehab assignment after dealing with hamstring and lat issues. Now, the Red Sox have announced that they have returned Mata from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester (retroactive to July 15).

7/15/24 White Sox 'Open' To Moving Hurler Who Would Be Perfect Option For Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox have two weeks to improve their starting rotation. The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is on July 30th and Boston's rotation has a hole that needs to be filled. Boston currently is missing Garrett Whitlock and has made due but should be considering options to bolster the rotation. One player who could fit what the Red Sox need is Chicago White Sox resurgent hurler Erick Fedde.

7/13/24 Red Sox Could Target Resurgent Star On Trade Block To Fill Biggest Need. The Boston Red Sox's starting rotation has been in the news lately. Boston has had strong pitching all season to this point, but it has been undermanned. The Red Sox's starting rotation isn't at full strength with Garrett Whitlock out for the season and with the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline approaching, it wouldn't be shocking to see a deal happen in the near future. The Red Sox are looking like a clear playoff team and adding another frontline starter could be just what they need to help put them over the top.

7/03/24 Underrated Blue Jays Hurler Could Be Prime Deadline Target For Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox have some clear needs with the trade deadline quickly approaching and the club trending in the direction of being buyers. Boston's biggest need clearly is adding another starting pitcher. Garrett Whitlock is out for the season and Boston has been undermanned. The Red Sox have made due, but they still should be considering a way to add pitching to make things easier.

6/27/24 Red Sox Could Acquire Ex-Yankees Star To Bolster Rotation With Major Trade. The starting rotation is the Boston Red Sox's biggest hole heading into trade season. Boston's rotation actually has been great this season but it isn't at full strength. The Red Sox currently are missing Garrett Whitlock and have been undermanned. Cooper Criswell has been great filling in for Whitlock, but the Red Sox should be looking for a way to bolster the rotation down the stretch with the playoffs being a real possibility.

6/18/24 Alex Cora explains why Red Sox sent down Cooper Criswell, re-shuffled rotation. When Garrett Whitlock was ruled out for the season after undergoing elbow surgery, it appeared right-hander Cooper Criswell would have the chance to establish himself in the Red Sox rotation for the rest of the season. With that in mind, it came as a surprise to see Criswell packing up his locker and departing Rogers Centre before Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. With setup man Chris Martin ready to be active after missing 14 games due to anxiety, the Red Sox made the somewhat surprising decision to option Criswell to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday afternoon. The righty, who has made 11 starts for Boston this season, had been on the active roster since April 13 — and had seemingly pitched well enough to keep his spot.

6/03/24 Red Sox Could Target White Sox Ace To Fill Biggest Need At Trade Deadline. The Boston Red Sox are in an intriguing spot right now. Boston's record doesn't jump off the page as the club currently sits at .500 with a 30-30 record. While this is the case, the Red Sox are in third place in the American League East and there is plenty of reasons for hope. The Red Sox boast one of the top starting rotations in baseball -- even with an injury to Garrett Whitlock.

5/30/24 Red Sox RHP undergoing season-ending surgery on Thursday. The Boston Red Sox have been dealing with injuries all season, and now a second starting pitcher is done for the year. According to MLB.com's Ian Browne, right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock is undergoing an internal bracing procedure today on his injured UCL. This is the same procedure that Lucas Giolito had after suffering a UCL injury before the season started, and while it will end Whitlock's season, it's a better timeline than having Tommy John surgery.

5/26/24 Former UAB standout to miss rest of Boston Red Sox's season. Making a rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on May 15, right-hander Garrett Whitlock threw 61 pitches in 4.2 shutout innings against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The former UAB standout yielded two hits and one walk and struck out five, putting him on course to return to the Boston Red Sox rotation. Whitlock had a 1-0 record and a 1.96 earned-run average in four starts to open the 2023 Major League season before being sidelined by a left oblique strain after an April 16 outing. Instead, Whitlock will miss the remainder of the season because of an elbow issue.

5/15/24 How Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock Feels After Rehab Start. Garrett Whitlock this week began his road back to the Boston Red Sox, and he seems on the right track to rejoin the team this month. The right-hander was placed on the injured list last month due to a left oblique strain he suffered during his last start against the Cleveland Guardians. Whitlock also recorded five strikeouts and walked one batter. The fourth-year pro was in a groove with a 66% strike rate, which prompted his rehab assignment to go into the fifth inning.

5/11/24 Red Sox starter to make rehab start next week in Worcester. While the Boston Red Sox have been dealing with injury issues throughout the beginning of the season, they are starting to have players ready to come back. According to "The Boston Globe's" Alex Speier, starting pitcher Garrett Whitlock is expected to make a rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. Whitlock was placed on the 15-day injured list back in mid-April with an oblique strain. Prior to the injury, he had made four starts for Boston this year, posting a 1.19 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.
