Griffin Jax and Cole Sands, two of the Twins' top three bullpen arms, watched from hundreds of feet away in center field as the team tried to piece together the final few innings on Wednesday night. It was clear, even before Wednesday's game started, that if the Twins were going to win, they would need some relievers to come through in different roles than they're used to handling. 10/19/23	Twins position breakdown: bullpen. While the Twins' bullpen wasn't quite the strength the starting rotation was in 2023, there was plenty for the Twins to like from the group, particularly late in the season. The bullpen finished the season with a 3.95 earned-run average, 15th in the majors. Griffin Jax went through some bumps in his second season as a reliever — some of it fluky with the underlying metrics showing he pitched better than the results he got — but recovered well and was nearly unhittable in the postseason. 9/10/23	Mets 2, Twins 0: Lopez Dazzles, Offense Fizzles. Pablo López did his best to put my personal losing streak to rest, but even his heroics weren't enough. Pablo completely silenced the Mets' bats, going eight innings without New York even putting together a threat, striking out a career-high 14 batters along the way. Things (somewhat worryingly) fell apart in the 8th for Griffin Jax, though, in typical Jax fashion, it was a lot of weak contact still. Francisco Lindor led the inning off with a double, but it had an exit velocity of 76.8 MPH and a launch angle of 56 degrees, a ball that should have been caught by Matt Wallner, regardless of where he was shaded. 7/02/23	Rare blip by Twins reliever Jhoan Duran leads to series finale loss in Baltimore. One run, a fantastic start from their starting pitcher and scoreless innings from relievers Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran was a winning recipe for the Twins on Saturday. The Twins tried to go back to that same recipe on Sunday, but this time, well, it didn't quite work. Starter Sonny Gray was fantastic through six innings and Jax did his part, too, but the normally-reliable Duran faltered in the eighth inning, giving up a pair of runs as the Baltimore Orioles took the series finale 2-1. The dilemma for fans was to whether there was more pain emanating from their eyes in watching the hometown Twins, or in their bones, from absorbing a 35-degree temperature that felt like 25 (as of 3 p.m.) during the 3-hour, 9-minute ordeal. Jesse Scholtens (0-1) was on the mound in the 10th for the White Sox, who got the game into extras after Luis Robert Jr. homered on the first pitch he saw from Minnesota closer Jhoan Duran in the ninth. Jax was the Mountain West co-Pitcher of the Year as a junior in 2016 at Air Force and was a third-round selection by the Twins in that year's MLB Draft.
