7/26/24 Matt Carpenter knows well the skills that show Cardinals Lars Nootbaar can 'break out'. As a young ballplayer and fan growing up a short distance but a long drive from Dodger Stadium, Lars Nootbaar knew all about the Cardinals and the times they “booted” the Dodgers out of the playoffs. Give it a few years and he became teammates with some of those Cardinals, including the one who initiated the offense. The one who could change an inning with his feel for the strike zone. “Every dad loves Matt Carpenter,” Nootbaar said.

6/28/24 Miles Mikolas' recent run of strong outings hit a big snag against the Reds on Thursday night. A potential impact bat could return to the Cardinals' lineup in the near future, but they needed a lot more firepower than one additional hitter to overcome the offensive onslaught the Cincinnati Reds unleashed on them on Thursday night. Prior to the game, the Cardinals announced outfielder Lars Nootbaar will begin a rehab assignment on Friday with Double-A Springfield. By the end of the fifth inning, Nootbaar could've safely hit the road with the knowledge that the series opener against the Reds had already been decided. Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas entered the night on a hot streak as far as producing quality starts and competitive outings, but the Reds scored in each of the five innings that Mikolas took the mound and put 10 runs on their way to handing the Cardinals an 11-4 loss in front of an announced crowd of 32,787 in the opener of a four-game series at Busch Stadium.
