8/15/23	Athletics look to snap skid against Cardinals. The Oakland Athletics will try to put an end to a four-game skid Tuesday when they continue a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Spenser Watkins will get the start for the A's while the Cardinals will go with right-hander Dakota Hudson. Oakland has been plagued with bullpen issues of late. 8/08/23	Athletics claim Spenser Watkins off waivers from Astros. The Oakland Athletics announced Tuesday that they claimed right-hander Spenser Watkins off of waivers from the Houston Astros and have optioned him to Triple A Las Vegas. Watkins will turn 31 later this month and has spent all of the 2023 season with the Astros' Triple A team where he has appeared in six games while posting a 9.74 ERA in just 20 1/3 innings. Watkins made his major league debut with the Baltimore Orioles in 2021 and has appeared in 39 games at the major league level where he has a 5.85 ERA and a 4.97 FIP in 160 career innings. BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays were rained out Tuesday night and are scheduled to play a doubleheader Wednesday to end the regular season. There is little significance to these last two games. The Blue Jays have clinched the top wild card in the American League, and the Orioles are assured of an above-.500 record and a fourth-place finish in the AL East a year after losing 110 games.
