9/08/24 Preview: Pirates Facing Pivotal Game vs. Nationals. The Pittsburgh Pirates were one hit and one out away from a win in their doubleheader against the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Neither moment arose for the Pirates, and now they have to play for a series split on Sunday. In the first game of the doubleheader, Pittsburgh loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, down 5-3. Bryan De La Cruz grounded into a double play to thwart the Pirates' comeback attempt and end the game. In the second game, Pittsburgh led 6-4 in the top of the ninth inning and was one out away from the win. Washington got four straight hits off of Aroldis Chapman, including back-to-back doubles from Ildemaro Vargas and Keibert Ruiz to make it 8-6.

8/27/24 Mets' Edwin Díaz, Reds' Alexis Díaz Combine to Make Brutal Brotherly History. The Díaz family had a historically rough go on Sunday. It started with Cincinnati Reds closer Alexis Díaz, who took the mound with his team leading the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Díaz plunked Bryan De La Cruz with one out, then allowed a walk-off, two-run home run to veteran Yasmani Grandal. A little over two hours later, Díaz's older brother Edwin checked in for the New York Mets, who were tied 2-2 with the San Diego Padres the bottom of the ninth.

8/24/24 Pirates Preview: Much-Needed Series Win at Hand. The Pittsburgh Pirates will have a chance to seal a series victory against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday night. After a dominant win to open the four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds, the Pirates had to claw back and win 6-5. Pittsburgh trailed 5-0 before getting back into the game with a four-run inning in the bottom of the fifth. Pittsburgh plated two more in the bottom of the sixth and rook the lead for good on a sacrifice fly from Bryan De La Cruz. De La Cruz, who drove in two runs, has three multi-RBI games in his last four games. Billy McKinney, Joey Bart, Jared Triolo and Oneil Cruz all had one RBI. 8/24/24 Pirates take advantage of overextended Cincinnati bullpen to rally for a 6-5 win. Bryan De La Cruz drove in a pair of runs and the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied past the Cincinnati Reds 6-5. The Pirates had dropped nine straight one-run games since the July 30 trade deadline before coming back from five down to beat the skidding Reds. Joey Bart and Rowdy Tellez had two hits for Pittsburgh, which is 5-3 since a 10-game slide. Tyler Stephenson hit his 17th home run of the season for Cincinnati. Santiago Espinal had three hits for the Reds, who used seven relievers after starting pitcher Andrew Abbott was placed on the injured list with a left shoulder injury.

Bryan De La Cruz drove in a pair of runs and the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied past the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 on Friday night. The Pirates had dropped nine straight one-run games since the July 30 trade deadline before coming back from five down to beat the skidding Reds for the sixth time in eight meetings so far this season. “Very excited about it, we’ve lost too many of them," Pittsburgh manager Derek Shelton said after his team improved to 20-26 in one-run contests.

7/30/24 Pirates add power in deal with Marlins for De La Cruz. 27-year-old Bryan De La Cruz of the Miami Marlins is heading to Pittsburgh in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jun-Seok Shim and infielder Garret Forrester. De La Cruz has an average of .245 with an OPS of .706 with 18 home runs, 51 RBI and 19 doubles this season. De La Cruz brings an on-base about as good as Andrew McCutchen and is tied for the team lead in home runs with Bryan Reynolds. Shim is the organization's 17th best prospect and Forrester is 18th, according to MLB Pipeline.

The Marlins took a 5-0 lead in the first two innings and stayed in front the rest of the way despite leaving 10 runners on base. The last-place Marlins are 5-3 since the All-Star break and have won three of their last four.

Bryan De La Cruz homered, Trevor Rogers pitched five scoreless innings and the Miami Marlins beat the Detroit Tigers 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Miami (13-32) has won two straight and three of four after a four-game losing streak. Four relievers finished, with Tanner Scott pitching the ninth for his fifth save. Two-out singles by Javier Baez and Carson Kelly put runners on the corners, but Riley Greene struck out.

Locked in a scoreless tie with the Detroit Tigers last night as the game headed to extras, outfielder Jesús Sánchez brought home “ghost runner” Bryan De La Cruz to give Miami a lead and then A.J. Jesús Sánchez drove in Bryan De La Cruz with a 10th-inning groundout, and the Miami Marlins beat the Detroit Tigers 1-0. Both starters — Miami’s Ryan Weathers and Detroit’s Reese Olson — allowed three singles in a career-best eight innings. Olson struck out six, and Weathers finished with four strikeouts. 4/20/24 Marlins rally past Cubs on Bryan De La Cruz HR in 9th. Bryan De La Cruz hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth inning as the visiting Miami Marlins rallied past the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Saturday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Luis Arraez went 3-for-5 with a double, while Jesus Sanchez and Nick Gordon added two hits apiece for Miami. Arraez singled with one out in the ninth to bring up De La Cruz, who clubbed a sinker from Cubs closer Adbert Alzolay 397 feet into the left field bleachers to put the Marlins ahead.

10/05/23 MLB finally made a decision about the Mets/Marlins suspended game. Last week, while the last two National League wild card spots were still up for grabs, the Marlins, in contention for one of those spots, were facing the Mets in the last of a three-game series Thursday, September 28 at Citi Field. The game went to the ninth inning with the Mets leading 1-0. Bryan De La Cruz singled leading off the ninth against Grant Hartwig and Garrett Hampson struck out.
