Reid Detmers worked six solid innings and Brandon Drury and Niko Kavadas homered to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-2 victory over the struggling Minnesota Twins on Monday night. Reid Detmers worked six solid innings and Brandon Drury and Niko Kavadas homered to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-2 victory over the struggling Minnesota Twins. Detmers allowed five hits and struck out eight — including the last three batters he face — for his first win since April 12 against Boston when he started the season 3-0. Drury hit his fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the the third inning and Kavadas added a two-run homer, his third, in the sixth inning. From Reid Detmers' perspective, the three dominant starts that earned him his long awaited ticket back to the majors were actually no different than the ones that preceded them. “Nothing really changed,” Detmers said on Sunday, the day he rejoined the Angels after three months in Triple-A. “Things just started going my way again, which was nice to see, and I took advantage of it the last couple starts.” Detmers said during his time in Triple-A he didn't change anything other than going back to the way he used to throw his slider. “Stuff was working,” Detmers said. On the same day that José Soriano struggled in the big leagues, showing signs that led the Angels to place on him on the injured list with arm fatigue, Reid Detmers had his best start of the season in Triple-A. It would be easy for the Angels to justify bringing Detmers back to the majors to take Soriano's spot in the rotation, which comes up on Wednesday. 8/03/24	Angels pitching coach Barry Enright believes Reid Detmers is almost ready to return. Reid Detmers is set for his 10th start at Triple-A on Sunday, and if all goes well, it could be his last. Pitching coach Barry Enright, who has been in close contact with Detmers and Salt Lake pitching coach Shane Loux, said on Saturday that there is a growing belief that the left-hander is almost ready to return to the big leagues. “In my communication with Shane, people think he is,” Enright said on Saturday. The Angels lefty was roughed up again Sunday, continuing a two-year slide that had only gotten worse and never better, giving up five hits and five runs in a 13-6 loss to the Giants and completing just one inning. Angels manager Ron Washington, postgame, said Suarez had struggled to locate his pitches.
