8/06/24	The worst team in baseball didn't want Romy Gonzalez, but he has been a versatile addition for the Red Sox. “Honestly, I was just excited for the opportunity,” Gonzalez said. Gonzalez did not make the team out of spring training but was called up on April 9. Gonzalez has a .789 OPS since and started games at first base, second base, shortstop, third base, center field, left field, and DH. For a team short on righthanded hitters, Gonzalez has played an important role bringing balance to the lineup and giving the Sox an offensive threat off the bench. 6/17/24	Red Sox Announce Roster Moves Before Series Vs. Blue Jays. Sign In The Boston Red Sox on Monday reinstated shortstop Romy Gonzalez from the 10-day Injured List prior to their series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. With Gonzalez back with Boston, infielder Jamie Westbrook was optioned to Triple-A Worcester. Gonzalez was sent to the IL on June 2 after he sustained a left hamstring strain on May 31. The 27-year-old has appeared in 17 games with the Red Sox and batted .257 with six RBIs. He made most of his starts at shortstop and also played at first base for one game. Gonzalez made three appearances during a rehab stint with Triple-A Worcester. He went 6-for-12 at the plate with four RBIs, a walk and a stolen base. For the first time in nearly a month, the Red Sox added a player to their major league roster Wednesday afternoon. Boston claimed infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez off waivers from the White Sox and designated pitcher Zack Weiss for assignment, according to a team announcement. At one point during the 2023 major league season, it was fair for fans to ask if Romy Gonzalez even deserved a spot on the Chicago White Sox's roster but as of late, he has put everyone's money where their mouth is. Whether it was the three straight days of home run balls or his gold glove-like defense at second base, he has given the White Sox a consistent rate of efficient play. Before the season, general manager Rick Hahn and skipper Pedro Grifol were very high on Romy Gonzalez. It took Gonzalez about two months to get going but now that he is, there's no reason for anyone else to have the starting second baseman job, even following the activation of veteran presence Elvis Andrus.
