9/18/24 After losing no-hit bid, Jays' Bowden Francis takes on Rangers. Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Bowden Francis has been outstanding since joining the starting rotation last month, and he'll try to stay on a roll when he takes the mound against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas. Francis (8-4, 3.50 ERA) is 4-1 in his past seven starts with a 1.50 ERA. During that span, he became the second pitcher since Nolan Ryan in 1989 to lose two no-hit bids in the ninth inning in the same season. "I just feel like I'm getting my shot now and I'm trying to make the most of it," Francis said.

You expected Bowden Francis to complete the no-hitter. You saw them falling behind the Braves in the race for the last National League wild-card spot. You're a Mets fan. So you've seen this before, an offense going in the tank at the exact wrong time. A hot streak turning into a cold one. Except, this team has something different in them. That doesn't mean they will make the playoffs or go on an October run. But when the situation is dire, when it looks like the season is going to turn

8/31/24 Bowden Francis: Up-And-Coming Dynasty Player. Good morning, afternoon or evening depending on when you are reading this or where you are reading this. Welcome back for another chapter of Up-and-Coming Dynasty Players. This week the spotlight turns to the Great White North and shines on Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Bowden Francis. In case you haven't been paying attention to the world of baseball lately, Francis is coming off a start in which he carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning against the Los Angeles Angels. As an encore on Thursday against Boston, his first start since facing the Angels, Francis took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished the night with on runs allowed on one hit and no walks and five strikeouts in seven innings of work. A Little Background Francis was first drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18th round of the 2016 draft out of Chipola College in Marianna, FL. Francis did not sign with the D-Backs and the moved paid off as he was drafted in the seventh round one year later by the Milwaukee Brewers. The 6-foot-5 right-hander pitched two full seasons in the Brewers' system before being traded to the Blue Jays on July 6, 2021, along with Trevor Richards for Rowdy Tellez. The trade was one that did not send shockwaves through baseball, and it didn't look for Toronto at the outset as Tellez had a massive season for the Brewers in 2022 when he slugged 35 homers and drove in 85 runs. However, it is a trade that appears to be paying off for Toronto now. Tellez is now in Pittsburgh where he is a having an average season at best. Meanwhile, Francis is establishing himself as a solid major league starter.

Last week, Francis flirted with what would have been the second no-hitter in Blue Jays history.

8/13/24 Francis fires gem, Wagner gets 3 hits in MLB debut as Blue Jays beat Angels 4-2.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Bowden Francis pitched seven dominant innings and Will Wagner got hits in the first three at-bats of his major league debut as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 on Monday night.

Leo Jiménez launched his first career home run and the last-place Blue Jays won the opener of a six-game trip after losing four of their previous five road games.

Mickey Moniak and Jo Adell homered for the Angels, who lost for the third time in four games after earning a series win on the road against the New York Yankees.

Wagner, the son of former All-Star closer Billy Wagner, hit the first pitch he saw into right-center field for a second-inning double.

“I was nervous on the on-deck circle, but once I was walking to the plate, I just started to gain a little bit more confidence,” Wagner said. “Just go up there and know I’m here for a reason and I was just trying to be aggressive.”

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Spencer Horwitz delivered back-to-back doubles in the third to open the scoring. Wagner singled with two outs for his first career RBI and a 2-0 lead.

Jiménez followed with a two-run shot to center field, his first homer in 30 games since making his big league debut July 4.

In his third at-bat, Wagner rolled a single into right field in the fifth. All three hits to begin his career came against right-hander Davis Daniel (1-4), who gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

“Just growing up in big league clubhouses, I kind of know what to expect,” Wagner said. “It was a nerve-wracking day for sure, but once you get that first at-bat out of the way it’s all good.”

Wagner became the fourth player in Blue Jays history to have three hits in his major league debut. He finally made his first out on a fly to...
