9/03/24 How Mets' Francisco Alvarez fared after two-game mini-break. Francisco Alvarez was back in the lineup Tuesday after getting back-to-back games off in an effort to help him get out of the slump that has stretched back to late June. Carlos Mendoza hoped the time off would provide a “reset” for the 22-year-old who hit 25 homers a year ago, but has been a mess at the plate for much of this year. Alvarez singled and scored in a four-run eighth-inning in the 7-2 win over Boston at Cit Field, but prior to the game, he acknowledged how rough the struggles have been on him. 9/01/24 Mets' Carlos Mendoza sticking with struggling Francisco Alvarez: 'our guy'. CHICAGO — Francisco Alvarez's offensive nosedive has been steep but not to the point manager Carlos Mendoza is considering a change to the Mets catching structure. “Alvarez is our guy,” Mendoza said Saturday when asked about the possibility of Luis Torrens receiving additional playing time. “Louie has done a hell of a job, but Alvarez is our guy.” Alvarez began the day with an abysmal .435 OPS since the All-Star break and last had a multi-hit game on Aug. 7. 8/24/24 Mets’ Francisco Alvarez ‘staying positive’ amid continued struggles at the plate. After smacking a walk-off homer Monday, the Mets hoped Francisco Alvarez was cracking out of his slump. Despite going hitless in his next 12 at-bats, Carlos Mendoza has faith in the young catcher.

8/20/24 Alvarez's homer in 9th inning gives Mets 4-3 win over Orioles. Francisco Alvarez hit a solo home run with one out in the ninth inning to give the New York Mets a 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. J.D. Martinez launched an early two-run shot and Tyrone Taylor had an RBI single as the Mets moved within 1 1/2 games of idle Atlanta for the last National League wild card. Ramón Urías hit a tying homer in the seventh for the Orioles, who dropped a half-game behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East. The slumping Alvarez connected on a 3-0 fastball from Seranthony Domínguez for his first home run since July 26.

8/17/24 Francisco Alvarez's power outage not worrying Mets hitting coach. The lack of home runs doesn't bother Eric Chavez. That's not the problem, the Mets hitting coach believes, when it comes to Francisco Alvarez's extended slump. “Literally what I told him, I said: 'Everybody wants to talk about homers, everybody wants to jump right into the homers.' I told him: 'I just want you to be a good hitter,” Chavez said of the catcher, who was 0-for-4 in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Marlins at Citi Field. “I said: 'In a few years, you will be the best offensive catcher in this game, no question about it.' I'll put my name on that. There's no doubt. But he just needs to learn how to be a good hitter.” Francisco Alvarez has slumped since carrying the team in June. Getty Images

8/14/24 Mets' star responds to A's pitcher who disrespected him: 'We'll meet again'. New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez wasn't happy with A's reliever Austin Adams's antics after striking him out on Tuesday. (AP Photo/Lynne Sladky) AP By Manny Gómez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com NEW YORK — Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez wasn't happy with what he saw from former teammate, A's reliever Austin Adams on Tuesday at Citi Field. Called upon in relief of Joe Boyle with the A's leading 7-4 with two outs in the fifth, Adams retired the three batters he faced — Jeff McNeil (strikeout), Jose Iglesias (pop out), and Alvarez (strikeout) — in order, following it up with an expletive-laden celebration in which Adams mocked the Mets' “OMG” celebration . 8/06/24 Mets' Francisco Alvarez making 'no excuse' for concerning power drought. DENVER — Francisco Alvarez has been his pitching staff's best friend this season, but the offensive power numbers on which he built much of his reputation have been lacking. The Mets catcher entered play Tuesday with a .263/.327/.419 slash line — numbers many teams would take from a starting catcher. But Alvarez only had five homers in 186 at-bats as the day began, well off his pace last season, when he homered 25 times in 382 at-bats as a 21-year-old rookie. The obvious answer would be to say Alvarez is banged up. 3 Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (4) hits an RBI single during the second inning against the Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 4, 2024. 8/04/24 Mets Notebook: Struggling Francisco Alvarez getting back on track. Francisco Alvarez is learning about how fickle performance can be in the big leagues. The second-year catcher absolutely mashed in June after returning from an injured list stint with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb, hitting .375 with a 1.123 OPS, five doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI. Over his last 10 games, Alvarez has hit just .111 with 10 strikeouts in 38 plate appearances. The Mets saw this from him during his rookie season when dismal numbers in June hurt his NL Rookie of the Year prospects and a .139 average in August dropped him from the running all together.

7/11/24 Alvy Missing You. It's as simple as this, the Mets started tanking the second Francisco Alvarez got hurt. Right now Alvarez is hitting .301 with 40 hits and 23 RBIs in 42 games. Alvarez very clearly brings out the best in this Mets team, because he's a pretty steady centerpiece to a team that can accomplish things without him, but would prefer if he was there. Nimmo's on an absolute tear, he's got 16 homers and 59 RBIs.

7/10/24 How Francisco Alvarez has made Mets' pitching staff better: 'Love this kid'. The Francisco Alvarez Effect has been real. The Mets are 29-13 in games in which their precocious young catcher plays and 17-32 without him. Sure, the upgrade with the bat — his .852 OPS began play Wednesday as third-best among catchers with at least 100 plate appearances — has been significant. 3 Francisco Alvarez shakes hand with Luis Severino after the right-hander exits the game in the seventh inning of the Mets' 6-2 win over the Nationals on Wednesday night.
