7/06/24 Padres Reliever 'Pushing Through' Mysterious Illness. San Diego Padres relief pitcher Jeremiah Estrada began eating carefully again but doctors still don't know what exactly caused his illness that began on June 9 and has him down about 17 pounds. Shortly after getting sick, Estrada allowed eight runs over five appearances (4.1 innings) in the middle of June. Estrada has become one of baseball's most dominant relief pitchers. A forearm injury that wouldn't heal led to Tommy John surgery.

6/28/24 Padres' Jeremiah Estrada Is Doing Something Few MLB Pitchers Have Ever Done. Padres relief pitcher Jeremiah Estrada is on track to join a special group of pitchers in MLB history. The right-hander leads all major league relievers in strikeouts per nine innings (15.80) and ranks second in strikeout percentage (42.1%). If he maintains this pace, Estrada stands to achieve the fifth-highest single-season strikeout percentage, and fourth-highest strikeouts per nine innings, among all MLB relief pitchers in history.

6/24/24 Padres Pitcher Does Something Only Two Relievers Have Ever Done. San Diego Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada has had a memorable season. Thursday, he became the third pitcher ever to strike out three batters in an inning on three consecutive calendar days. Pitching three days in a row wasn't the original plan, but he has now joined a list that only includes Raisel Iglesias in 2019 and John Hiller in 1975. “I give him a ton of credit, man,” Padres manager Mike Shildt said.

6/09/24 Padres Reliever is Always Honing His Craft — Even at the Grocery Store. Jeremiah Estrada has been the biggest, and best, surprise of 2024 for the Padres. The Padres claimed him off waivers from the Chicago Cubs this offseason, and Estrada has paid them back in spades. This year, Estrada has only allowed two runs in 20.2 innings pitched and has struck out a whopping 42.5% of batters faced. In a recent radio interview with MLB Network, Estrada says he's constantly working on his craft.

6/05/24 Padres look to avert sweep in series finale vs. Angels. San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt had one thing in mind when he brought in reliever Jeremiah Estrada in the eighth inning of Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels: strikeout. Estrada, however, yielded a sacrifice fly to Luis Guillorme, allowing what turned out to be the winning run to score in Los Angeles' 2-1 win. The Angels followed that with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday. Shildt will not hesitate to bring in Estrada in a similar situation Wednesday night when the Padres and Angels wrap up their three-game series in Anaheim, Calif. After all, Estrada has shown he can get a strikeout when needed.

5/31/24 With Jeremiah Estrada in tow, Padres set for opener vs. Royals. As the San Diego Padres arrive in Kansas City to begin a three-game series with the Royals on Friday night, all the buzz is about Jeremiah Estrada's video-game like streak. Indeed, striking out 13 consecutive batters -- an expansion-era record -- is part of his (video) game plan for the Padres' right-handed reliever. "The goal wasn't to make the team," Estrada said. All I was trying to do was get my rank up on my 'MLB The Show' card.

5/30/24 Padres' Jeremiah Estrada Has Hilarious Reaction to His New Record. After setting a new Expansion Era record by striking out 13 consecutive batters, the San Diego Padres' reliever compared his job to his favorite video game. “The goal wasn't to make the team; I mean of course it's to make the team,” Estrada said while laughing as he read through what he told his friends. All I was trying to eff'n do was get my rank up on my MLB The Show card. Estrada, whose player card holds a 57 on his virtual card, was supercharged to a 99 in honor of his record-setting feat.

5/29/24 Padres' Jeremiah Estrada reacts to stunning strikeout record. Within a span of six months, things changed a lot for San Diego Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada. Back in November, the Chicago Cubs waived him. The Padres ultimately picked Estrada up but only a month ago, he was pitching in Triple-A. Well, on Tuesday night, he set a record that's never been done in the expansion era, striking out 13 consecutive hitters.

5/28/24 San Diego Padres' Reliever Making Unreal History with Strikeout Streak. San Diego Padres' reliever Jeremiah Estrada didn't pitch on Monday when the Padres beat the Miami Marlins, 2-1, but when he takes the mound next, he'll be looking to make some incredible baseball history. The strikeout has become more prevalent in the game over the last decade or so, but this is absurd even for the current time period that we're living in.
