Matt Wallner homered for the second straight game, Brooks Lee snapped an 0-for-19 stretch with a go-ahead, two-run double and the Minnesota Twins beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 on Wednesday night. Royce Lewis nearly had his sixth career grand slam for Minnesota in the seventh inning, as his drive to left field was initially called a home run but a review showed that the ball hit off the top of the wall and back into play for a two-run double. Wallner's 13th homer of the season into the bullpens in left-center field tied the game after Los Angeles' Taylor Ward led off the game with his 23rd homer. 8/29/24	What’s The Point: From The Window To The Wall(ner). What is up party people? September baseball is right around the corner which is make or break time for teams, both real and fantasy. Matt Wallner can help give you that final boost. His last month has been pretty dang good with 7 home runs while batting over .300. Those are pretty solid numbers, especially for a guy who is more than likely on your wire right now. The only real knocks on him so far are his strikeout rate (37%) and that he takes a seat against lefties. That obviously limits his ceiling but with so little time left in the season you really can't complain too much. Best of luck to all on your championship push. A long game filled with a 20-minute delay for lights, five errors, an inside-the-park home run and a challenge ended with the St. Paul Saints losing 11-9 to the Iowa Cubs, snapping St. Paul's nine-game road winning streak. Matt Wallner, Chris Williams and Yunior Severino each homered for the Saints. Brooks Lee had three hits. Randy Dobnak started and pitched five innings. He allowed three runs but all the runs were unearned as the Saints committed three errors. Jeff Brigham allowed two runs in the sixth inning in his one inning of relief to blow the save. Forest Lake's Matt Wallner was named the Class AAA International League's player of the week on Monday for his performance with the Saints last week. Wallner hit a league-best .519 across six games in Louisville, going 14 for 27 with two doubles and pacing the league with both five home runs and 11 RBI. He also led the league in hits, slugging percentage (1.148), OPS (1.700), total bases (31) and runs (11). The outfielder collected at least one hit in all six games, now riding a season-best, seven-game hit streak with multiple hits in each of the past four games, including a pair of four-hit nights. 6/13/24	Twins send slumping Alex Kirilloff to Triple-A. First, they optioned Matt Wallner, hoping a trip to Triple-A would help him reset. Edouard Julien was next, and on Thursday, Alex Kirilloff officially became the third slumping left-handed hitter the Twins have sent down to the minors this year. Saints left fielder Matt Wallner continued his torrid hitting Thursday, but his solo home run accounted for all of St. Paul's scoring in a 5-1 loss to the Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio. Wallner went 2 for 4 with that solo home run and is hitting .414 over his past seven games. He's had five multi-hit games in that stretch and has hit four home runs. Louie Varland, who had allowed just one run in his first 12 innings with the Saints since being sent down from the Twins, allowed five runs on seven hits with three walks and eight strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. 4/16/24	Twins send Wallner to Triple-A, recall Larnach. The Minnesota Twins have optioned struggling outfielder Matt Wallner to Triple-A St. Paul ahead of Tuesday's game in Baltimore. The Forest Lake native spent the second half of last season with the Twins but has stumbled out of the gates this season, collecting just two hits and his first 25 at-bats. Larnach, the Twins' first-round draft pick in 2018, has spent parts of the last three seasons with the big-league club but started this season at Triple-A as he dealt with a turf toe injury.
