Brown initially went on the injured list in early June for what the team called a strained neck. The team was optimistic that the new diagnosis would mean a shorter recovery time, albeit one that was difficult to predict given the unique ailment.

5/29/24 Hayden Wesneski unaware of Ben Brown's active no-hitter during his relief stint. 5/23/24 3 Chicago Cubs takeaways after 2-5 homestand: offensive futility, Ian Happ getting on track and Porter Hodge’s electric fastball. Ben Brown continues to show he can handle any role the Chicago Cubs need from him. Brown found out after Wednesday night’s game he would be getting the ball roughly 15 hours later against the Atlanta Braves for his first home start. 4/21/24 Ben Brown's role could be dictated out of necessity for Chicago Cubs. Cubs rookie pitcher Ben Brown has raised a lot of eyebrows so far in his young career. Brown, in his last start in Arizona, went six innings last Monday, giving up just one run on one hit before pitching two scoreless relief innings in game two of Saturday's DH. It is safe to say a lot of Cubs fans would love to see him in the rotation, especially since the Cubs rotation does not have the power arms that other teams do. Brown's most recent appearance came several hours after closer Adbert Alzolay blew his fourth save opportunity of the season.
