Brent Headrick and Randy Dobnak combined to give up just one run on four hits and the St. Paul Saints defeated the Iowa Cubs 2-1 on Wednesday night at CHS Field. Headrick started for the Saints and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk and striking out four. Dobnak entered in the fourth and pitched the final six innings, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. had a run-scoring double for the Saints in the third inning, and Iowa tied the game on Chase Strumpf's home run off Dobnak in the fifth. David Festa was a 6-foot-6 string bean of a pitcher at Seton Hall when the Twins decided he had enough potential to take him in the 13th round of the 2021 draft. If he could continue to learn how to keep that long frame moving in the right direction and add some strength, the Twins figured they could have something. Two years later, what they have is a legitimate major league prospect. Left-hander Brent Headrick, called up from the Saints for the second time this season, earned the victory on Saturday after 2 1/3 innings of work in relief. Headrick has added a splitter to his repertoire that he feels makes him a more effective pitcher than he was the first time around. “I went up as a long reliever the first time, and I was able to go three innings and five innings with just the two pitches,” Headrick said. The St. Paul Saints' struggles at the plate continued Sunday, as they struck out 17 times in a 7-0 loss to the Indianapolis Indians in the finale of their road trip at Victory Field. The 17 Ks were the second-most ever in a nine-inning game in history for the Saints (8-6), who had chances to score early but could never get the big hit. José De León got the spot start after Brent Headrick was called up to the Twins, and he was sharp in his three innings of work.
