9/09/24 San Francisco Giants Infielders Have Heated Dugout Argument After Error. The San Francisco Giants were able to walk out of Petco Park with a win over the San Diego Padres on Sunday, but it wasn't all that friendly in the dugout. Marco Luciano and Tyler Fitzgerald collided after they both went for a fly ball, the two teammates then had to be separated in the dugout after an argument started to get heated. Third base coach Matt Williams acted quickly to break it up before things went too far and turned into into a coachable moment for the two rookies. Luciano said that he called for the ball, but Fitzgerald couldn't hear him because of how loud Petco Park had gotten.

Frustration is setting in for the Giants as they close in elimination from playoff contention, and a misplay between two of their young players on Sunday led to noticeable tension. 9/07/24 San Francisco Giants Top 30 Prospects Rankings See Final Re-Shuffle. Baseball America wrapped up its final prospect rankings of the 2024 regular season as it unveiled its Top 30 prospects for the San Francisco Giants on Friday. The site had already ranked first baseman Bryce Eldridge as a Top 100 prospect, moving him up to No. 37. Now, the site has re-ranked the rest of the system, with infielder Marco Luciano — who is with the Giants — was ranked No. 2. San Francisco promoted him shortly after rosters expanded on Sept. 1 with the hope of giving him additional playing time to determine his fit for next season.

9/06/24 San Francisco Giants Rookie Doesn't Have Long To Earn Full Time MLB Job. The San Francisco Giants are giving their rookie another look at the MLB level, but another weak stretch could have big implications in the long term. MLB.com's Maria Guardado looked around the Giants' roster for the person with the 'most to prove' down the stretch and came up with rookie Marco Luciano. "Once viewed as the shortstop of the future [in San Francisco], Luciano is now expected to get an extended look at second base in September and try to show that he's capable of learning the position on the fly in the Majors," said Guardado. "If he continues to look shaky on defense, the Giants may need to reevaluate where the 22-year-old rookie fits best into their long-term plans and whether they'd be better served seeking out more middle infield help in free agency this offseason."

9/04/24 What Giants have planned for Luciano, Matos after latest promotions. For the second time in a month, Marco Luciano is in the big leagues with the promise of a long runway to show what he can do. Tuesday afternoon's call-up from Triple-A was the third of the year and second since the All-Star break for Luciano, although the last one proved to be much shorter than he expected and the Giants said it would be. After dumping Jorge Soler's salary on the Atlanta Braves, they talked of letting Luciano be the everyday DH, but it wasn't long before Jerar Encarnacion, Michael Conforto and others were soaking up those at-bats. This time, Luciano is up as a second baseman, and there's a lot less competition there.

9/03/24 San Francisco Giants Top Prospect One Step Closer to Big Leagues. On Monday, it was reported that the San Francisco Giants decided to promote their top prospect, Bryce Eldridge to Double-A Richmond. Eldridge was the Giants first round pick in 2023 and at just 19-years-old, he is yet another step closer to the Major Leagues. The move was reported by Roger Munter of ThereRGiants.com. Eldridge was moved to the top prospect in San Francisco's system after Marco Luciano and Kyle Harrison graduated, but given that he was drafted out of high school just last year, he seemed to be far away still.

8/25/24 Potential San Francisco Giants Trade Target Could Be Moved This Offseason. Right now, all the focus is on the San Francisco Giants getting into the playoffs. What that could mean for the roster is unclear, but there is a chance Farhan Zaidi won't be leading the charge this winter if the Giants aren't able to earn a Wild Card spot. In a perfect world, their top prospect Marco Luciano would become their full-time shortstop, allowing Tyler Fitzgerald to be used as a superutilityman.

8/15/24 San Francisco Giants Select Outfield Prospect, Option Struggling Infielder. The San Francisco Giants announced on Wednesday that they have optioned infielder/DH Marco Luciano and selected the contract of outfielder Grant McCray. Given the front office's comments about Luciano after the deadline, this move came as a bit of a surprise in that the Giants are currently in need of an everyday DH. McCray was just named the number 11 prospect in the Giants system in MLB Pipeline's new rankings, and has been a bit up and down in the system since he was drafted.

8/02/24 San Francisco Giants Announce Multiple Roster Moves Ahead of Huge Reds Series. With the trade deadline now in the past, it's clear what the mindset of the San Francisco Giants organization is as they head into the final two months of the season. Despite having the ability to move many of their pieces, the front office opted to hold onto them, seemingly convinced this team can make a run at the playoffs with their starting rotation healthy and other players on offense starting to heat up. Initial roster moves were made when deadline day passed, including the promotion of their star prospect Marco Luciano who has been shredding up Triple-A and seems to be their designated hitter going forward.

7/31/24 What becoming SF Giants' full-time DH means for Marco Luciano's development. Marco Luciano took a seat on the bench on the top step of the third-base dugout Wednesday afternoon and waited. As pitchers played catch on the outfield grass, the Giants' top prospect was their only position player to make his way out of the clubhouse. Once the ball bags and protective screens and fungo bats were properly placed on the field, Matt Williams approached the young shortstop and leaned over the dugout rail. Luciano fielded soft hoppers from Williams in foul territory, starting from his knees and working his way into an athletic stance, moving further apart, until it was time to move their drills to the infield dirt.

7/29/24 Giants' surprising Soler move finally should open door for Luciano. The Giants have been looking for a way to clear at-bats for 22-year-old Marco Luciano, and the Jorge Soler trade did just that.

5/26/24 SF Giants sit Marco Luciano for 2nd straight game amid defensive woes. When the Giants called up Marco Luciano, their top decision-maker, Farhan Zaidi, said the club was going to “give him a good shot at this job” and that the their highly touted prospect was going to “get some run” at shortstop in Nick Ahmed's absence. Not two weeks later, Luciano's name was absent from the starting lineup for the final two games of the Giants' road trip. In their series finale Sunday against the Mets, manager Bob Melvin opted for the left-handed-hitting Brett Wisely over Luciano, even with Sean Manaea, a southpaw, on the mound for their opponents. “Maybe not Marco's best trip, as far as defensively,” Melvin said before first pitch Sunday.

5/18/24 SF Giants to give Marco Luciano 'a good shot' at shortstop job. Bob Melvin perched himself on the top step of the third-base dugout Saturday morning and directed his gaze toward shortstop. Marco Luciano was fielding ground balls while Nick Ahmed made throws to first base, wearing a black brace where his glove would typically be on his left wrist. As long as Ahmed, 34, remains out, the Giants manager intends to get a good look at the 22-year-old still considered the organization's shortstop of the future. “We patched it together with Casey (Schmitt) for a few days and Casey did a nice job,” Melvin said.

5/14/24 Overmatched, undermanned SF Giants lose 5th in a row to mighty Dodgers. The Dodgers brought their $300 million behemoth to Oracle Park and needed only the first two games to secure a series win. Another strong contingent of fans in Dodger blue watched Tuesday for a second straight night as their team vanquished the home squad, whose good-luck threads still weren't enough to overcome its undermanned and overmatched roster. Technically it was the Giants who lost, 10-2, but it might as well have been the Triple-A River Cats. It was just on May 1, after all, that Marco Luciano and Blake Sabol and Luis Matos and Casey Schmitt and Brett Wisely and Jakson Reetz made up two-thirds of Sacramento's batting order.

3/27/24 'Pat the Bat' Burrell returns home on Giants coaching staff. If Marco Luciano, Luis Matos and the rest of the Giants' young hitters break out this season, a new – but familiar – face in the clubhouse will be a big reason why. “Pat the Bat” is back with the Giants for the latest chapter in his charmed Bay Area baseball life. Pat Burrell joined new manager Bob Melvin's coaching staff as a hitting instructor, 29 years after helping San Jose's Bellarmine High win the West Catholic Athletic League title, 14 years after helping spark the Giants' breakthrough World Series run, and four years after he got his coaching start as a roving hitting instructor in the team's minor league ranks.
