4/10/24	Red Sox Pitcher Undergoes Season-Ending Tommy John Surgery. It was trending this way, but it's now official for Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Murphy. The lefty reliever will be sidelined for the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. The surgery took place at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington, Texas. FORT MYERS, Fla. — Lefty Chris Murphy , who was competing for a spot on the Red Sox ' Opening Day roster, has been shut down and will undergo an MRI on his elbow Monday. “Not recovering well from the last one in the elbow area,” manager Alex Cora said Monday at JetBlue Park. “So we'll see what's going on there. 9/15/23	Red Sox Make Roster Move Ahead Of Blue Jays Series. Sign In The Red Sox made a roster move ahead of their series against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. Boston recalled left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy from Triple-A Worcester and optioned fellow southpaw Brandon Walter. Murphy last pitched for Boston on Aug. 27 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 25-year-old has a 4.64 ERA in 14 games with the Red Sox with 43 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings. Walter pitched in the second half of Boston's doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Thursday. He tossed three scoreless innings, which was his longest career scoreless outing. The 27-year-old had a 6.26 ERA in nine games with 16 strikeouts in 23 innings. Boston's relievers have thrown the fourth-most innings in all of baseball. 8/21/23	Red Sox roster moves: Lefty reliever optioned to make room for Tanner Houck. HOUSTON — The Red Sox have optioned left-handed reliever Chris Murphy to Triple-A Worcester to make room on the active roster Tanner Houck who will start Tuesday against the Astros. Houck has been on the 15-day injured list since June 18 (retroactive to June 17) after he suffered a facial fracture. Houck got struck in the face by an 89.7 mph batted ball June 16. He underwent surgery and had a plate inserted into his face . Murphy likely will rejoin the Red Sox as a September call-up. However, he needs to remain in Triple A for 15 days before he's allowed to be recalled. And so he's not eligible to return until Sept. 6, unless he's replacing an injured player. Red Sox lefty Chris Murphy received his first big league promotion June 6 despite struggling during the first two months with Triple-A Worcester. “What I've learned is just take advantage of the opportunity at hand,” Murphy told MassLive last Sunday at Fenway. In the back of my head, I always knew I'd pitch well in the big leagues just confidence-wise.
