9/09/24 Next Year's Philadelphia Phillies Projected Starting Lineup Has Notable Omission. Coming into this season, the Philadelphia Phillies had floated the idea of starting Johan Rojas in Triple-A based on how badly he struggled at the plate during the playoffs. On one hand, the Phillies' bottom five defense completely turned around when the rookie was inserted into center field so Brandon Marsh could take over in left and move Kyle Schwarber back to designated hitter. Rojas has tons of talent in the field, so if he could find a way to consistently perform with the bat in his hand, there's a chance he could become one of the best all-around outfielders in the MLB.

8/17/24 Does Red-Hot Philadelphia Phillies Youngster Deserve Everyday Role?. Since Johan Rojas debuted for the Philadelphia Phillies last year, his career has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride. Rojas shined as a rookie last season, giving the Phillies a major spark with his .302/.342/.430 batting line and 14 stolen bases in 59 games. All offseason, Philadelphia fans wondered whether Rojas would be able to hold his own at the plate or continue to be exposed in 2024. After he struggled in spring training and got off to a terrible start (.550 OPS through July 4), they seemed to have their answer.

8/10/24 Adrian Del Castillo hits winning homer in 9th inning, D-backs beat Phillies 3-2. Adrian Del Castillo hit the winning homer in just his second game in the majors, hammering the first pitch of the ninth inning to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. The Phillies rallied from a 2-0 deficit, tying it in the eighth on a two-out RBI double from Johan Rojas that scored a hustling Nick Castellanos from first.

8/03/24 Recently Traded Philadelphia Phillies Outfielder Picked Up by Division Rival. The Philadelphia Phillies entered the 2024 season with a major hole in center field. Johan Rojas was the Opening Day starter, but was sent down at one point because of his struggles. Cristian Pache, who was in a backup role, was traded during the deadline. If they had any sort of offensive production, they'd be two of the better players in Major League Baseball.

7/25/24 Philadelphia Phillies Eyeing Blockbuster Trade with Division Rival. Coming out of the All-Star Break, the Philadelphia Phillies knew they had two major needs to address before next Tuesday's trade deadline: an outfield bat and a relief pitcher. Wednesday's series finale against the Twins was especially painful, with the Phillies blowing a 4-1 lead in the late innings and losing 5-4 in walk-off fashion. Both of their issues were on full display, as center fielder Johan Rojas went 0-for-2 and the bullpen coughed up a three-run lead with nine outs to go, squandering six innings of one-run ball from Aaron Nola. Rojas has been a black hole at the plate this year, batting an anemic .231/.268/.295 with three home runs and 23 RBI in 77 games.

7/21/24 Phillies' Johan Rojas goes viral after epic Dikembe Mutombo celebration. The Philadelphia Phillies may not have gotten the victory on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but they did get to watch another spectacular catch from center fielder Johan Rojas. Suffering a 4-1 defeat is nothing to be happy about, but at least Rojas added to his ever-growing highlight reel of crazy catches in the outfield. In the bottom of the first, Nick Gonzales hit a line drive out to center field that was falling fast. Rojas got a good jump on the ball, though, and he ended up making a diving catch to save a run from scoring.

7/17/24 Phillies reportedly "have interest" in trading for White Sox outfielder. The Major League Baseball All-Star Game is officially in the rearview, which means the trade deadline will be here before any of us know it. Every contending team looks to improve at this time of year, and no team is more of a lock to be in contention than the Philadelphia Phillies. With baseball's best starting rotation and most returning players with postseason experience, the Phillies are in search of one thing: a World Series title. The Phillies have had a gaping hole in center field all season, after star 2023 rookie Johan Rojas hasn't lived up to his billing in year two.

7/12/24 Johan Rojas shows why the Phillies believe their best roster includes him. Whether it’s an inability to consistently get bunts down or struggles getting good secondary leads, there have been some frustrating moments for Johan Rojas this season. The Philadelphia Phillies said as much when they demoted Rojas to Triple-A Lehigh Valley back in mid-June. But for all their frustrations, manager Rob Thomson said at the time […]

7/11/24 Phillies linked to Nationals emerging outfield star in potential blockbuster. There are no perfect teams in Major League Baseball, but in 2024, the Philadelphia Phillies are the closest thing we have. Philadelphia has struggled to find production from its center fielders all season long, with both Johan Rojas and Cristian Pache dangerously close to losing their roster spots. Both have on-base percentages and slugging percentages below .300, an unacceptable mark for MLB hitters.

7/09/24 Three questions the Phillies must answer before they decide what to do at the trade deadline. Never mind that the Phillies led by only two runs in the ninth inning last Wednesday night. Or that the sinking line drive heading in Johan Rojas' direction might have tied the game if it skipped past him and rolled to the wall. Rojas' job is to cover the outfield like a tarp, not to play it safe. The real rescue belonged to Rojas.

7/08/24 Former MLB GM Believes Philadelphia Phillies Will Land One of Three Star Outfielders. The Philadelphia Phillies' interest in landing an outfielder is well-reported. Dave Dombrowski will look to do anything he can to improve this team and with their one weak spot being in the outfield, expect them to fix that issue. Johan Rojas, who was sent down due to how badly he played, was called back up due to some of the injuries the team has dealt with. Simply put, the Phillies have an issue on their hand in center field, and if it isn't fixed, it could be the reason they don't win the World Series.

6/20/24 Phillies: Johan Rojas gets early returns, leads IronPigs to fourth consecutive win. Two red buckets were set up on the infield grass about 20 feet in opposite directions from home plate about five hours from first pitch Tuesday at Coca-Cola Park. Not an unusual sight because they are used to collect baseballs during batting practice or after infield drills. This time, however, they were strategically placed as targets for Johan Rojas, who was in his first day in Triple-A after being sent down from the Phillies to make room for Brandon Marsh. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound outfielder batted .235 with 43 hits, 14 stolen bases and 31 strikeouts in 58 games this year with the Phillies.

6/18/24 Philadelphia Phillies Struggling Slugger Viewed As Bounce Back Candidate. Despite being the best team in the National League, there are still areas on this Philadelphia Phillies roster that have underperformed. While that makes them much scarier considering their ceiling hasn't been reached yet, it's also a sign there are still things that could come back to bite them in the playoffs just like the previous two seasons. Johan Rojas was just sent down to Triple-A because of his struggles, and Nick Castellanos has not been able to perform at the All-Star level like he did in 2023. Without the high-priced slugger producing from his spot in the lineup, there isn't a whole lot of value he provides on the field as he's a below-average defender with a -0.5 defensive bWAR through 72 games this season.

6/18/24 Why Marchan should stay over Stubbs when JT Realmuto returns. In about a month, once the All-Star Break is over, or thereabouts, JT Realmuto will be healthy again. The Phillies front office will hev to make another difficult decision, much like when the team decided to send outfielder Johan Rojas to AAA to make room on the active roster for shortstop Trea Turner, who had missed six weeks with a...

6/18/24 Johan Rojas now odd man out of Phillies' outfield. Just because he has talked glowingly of his young outfielder Johan Rojas, it doesn't mean Rob Thomson couldn't see reality when it swung and missed at him too often night after night. Apparently seeing what everyone else had too often – frequent Rojas failures at the plate – Thomson and his bosses were moved to send Rojas back to Triple-A Lehigh Valley Monday. The move came to open up a roster spot for veteran Trea Turner, who was back in the starting lineup Monday night against the Padres after missing six weeks due to a hamstring strain. Although some fans and dispassionate observers might have seen Rojas as putting a strain on a lineup that had been slipping with injuries to Turner, J.T. Realmuto and until recently outfielder Brandon Marsh, Rojas managed hits in his last three starts.

6/18/24 Help wanted | Sports Daily Newsletter. Most Phillies fans knew it could come to this for Johan Rojas, a gifted center fielder who is still finding his way at the plate. The Phillies sent Rojas to Lehigh Valley so they could make room on their roster for shortstop Trea Turner. Outfielders Cristian Pache and David Dahl likely would have been claimed on waivers if either one was sent down, so Rojas became the odd man out. The Phillies famously ran back their roster this season in a bid to avenge that NLCS hiccup last fall, but it turns out that roster is not quite complete.
