2/25/24 Started by Drew Rom, Cardinals pitchers combine for 3-0 Grapefruit League win over Astros. Facing an Astros lineup that had most of its starters atop it, Cardinals lefty Drew Rom knew what challenge facing a group of former All-Stars could present even in a spring training setting. “When I was walking out from the bullpen... going into the dugout, I looked up (and) that's about when I saw it,” Rom said referring to the moment he saw Sunday's Astros lineup that began with Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, and Kyle Tucker. Making his first spring start for St. Louis, Rom retired Altuve on a hard-hit lineout to left that was hauled in just shy of the outfield wall and saw a deep fly ball from Bregman get hauled in at the warning track in left field.

9/12/23 Former Orioles prospect Drew Rom looking forward to start at Camden Yards: Cardinals Extra. Cardinals left-hander Drew Rom will have a rather unique experience as an opposing pitcher in a hostile environment Wednesday evening. Not only will he have an intricate understanding of his opponents, but he'll even know a good chunk of the folks in the stands booing him when he takes the mound against the Baltimore Orioles. A former Orioles prospect, Rom quipped that there's as much as a 50-60% chance he knows some of the loyal Orioles fans in the stands in Oriole Park at Camden Yards when he makes his fifth start in the big leagues.

8/22/23 Joshua Palacios has 3-run home run, 5 RBIs to lead Pirates to 11-1 win over Cardinals.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Joshua Palacios hit a three-run home run and had a career-high five RBIs to help the Pittsburgh Pirates beat St. Louis 11-1 on Monday night, sending the last-place Cardinals to their fifth loss in six games.

Palacios’ drive down the right-field line capped a four-run fourth inning to put the Pirates ahead 8-0 and chased starter Drew Rom, who was making his major-league debut. Palacios capped the scoring with a two-run double in the eighth.

Palacios also made a nice sliding catch of Jose Fermin’s line drive in left field to end the game.

Monday marked the first time Palacios faced his brother, Cardinals infielder/outfielder Richie Palacios, in the major leagues. Richie had a pinch-hit single in the ninth.

The brothers were winter ball teammates in Puerto Rico with Mayaguez after last season and played together for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic in March.

“We’ll definitely remember that forever,” Joshua Palacios said. “Today was like a bucket list thing. We always wanted to play against each other in the big leagues. It was a blessing that it happened. It’s a very competitive household. I had to set the tone today.”

Palacios, who grew up in Brooklyn, estimated he had 45-50 family members in the stands.

“Thank God this wasn’t New York City, or I might have gone broke,” Palacios said with a smile.

The Cardinals remained in fifth place in the NL Central, falling 1 1/2 games behind the Pirates. St. Louis hasn’t finished in last place since 1990.

The Pirates and Cardinals met as the bottom two teams in the division for the first time since 1995.

Connor Joe tripled three times and rookie Endy Rodriguez also had three hits for the Pirates. Andrew McCutchen, Palacios and Alika Williams added two...

6/18/23 Orioles minor league recap 6/18: Bowie's walkoff is only win on the farm. The opener of a doubleheader was a thriller between the AL East affiliates, as Norfolk fell into an early 5-0 deficit, clawed all the way back to tie the score in the sixth, and then lost anyway when the Red Sox scored three runs in their final at-bat. Tides reliever Ryan Watson coughed up a pair of homers in the seventh for the loss. Starter Drew Rom worked a perfect first but was scored upon in each of the next four innings.

2/25/23 Prospect Drew Rom thrilled to open Orioles' 'coming-out year' as starter for first spring game. Starting the first game of spring training is not the glamorous assignment pitching on baseball's true opening day is. “Huge confidence boost,” Rom, 23, said Thursday after manager Brandon Hyde named him Baltimore's starter for Saturday's Grapefruit League opener against the Minnesota Twins. Baseball America ranks Rom as the Orioles' No. 24 prospect, ninth among pitchers, and although he's one of the dozen candidates for Baltimore's five season-opening rotation spots, he's perhaps the least likely member of that group to receive one.
