David Fry and José Ramírez homered, and the Cleveland Guardians held on to beat the Minnesota Twins 5-3 to earn a split of the four-game series between the top two teams in the AL Central. The Guardians won their second straight after losing seven in a row, and now lead Minnesota by 3 1/2 games. Kansas City is four games back. Emmanuel Clase pitched a shaky ninth for his 35th save as Minnesota loaded the bases with no outs in the final frame, but Willi Castro struck out on a full count and Trevor Larnach grounded into a double play. 7/13/24 'Pretty Surreal:' How Guardians' David Fry Found Out He Was An All-Star. Cleveland Guardians utility man and designated hitter David Fry will appear head to Texas as a first-time All-Star, and this was something he never expected even when fan voting was going on. “When the first stuff was kind of going on, and they were doing the fan voting, just like my wife and family sent me stuff about me being on the ballot, that was good enough for me,” said Fry on MLB Radio. As we know, Fry made the All-Star roster as a reserve, and the story about how he found this out will put a smile on all fans faces. Then [Stephen Vogt] gets into it and tells [Emmanuel Clase], tells [Josh Naylor] [they're All-Stars], and everybody gets fired up because Josh is a guy that probably should've gotten it last year and we were all pumped that he got it this year, and [Vogt] said there was one more, I was just playing cards with [Hunter Gaddis] and he was kind of like tapping me, and I was like 'No way.'

6/07/24 What Is Guardians' Current Plan With Daniel Schneemann?. Versatility has been a calling card of the Cleveland Guardians this season. David Fry has played just about everywhere in the field, Tyler Freeman transitioned from a top prospect as an infielder to a productive outfield bat, and even Gabriel Arias has gotten reps just about everywhere. With that being said, it only makes sense that one of Cleveland's recent call-ups is a player who is adaptable given different situations. Daniel Schneemann made his debut for the Guardians on Sunday at second base.

5/29/24 Have The Cleveland Guardians Pulled Another One Out Of Their Hat?. The only thing more surprising than the first-place Cleveland Guardians leading the American League in runs scored is the player who leads the team in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS, and is tied for the team lead in hitting. Say hello to the Guardians' Swiss army knife: David Fry. When it comes to fishing the waters of other teams' minor league systems, the Guardians take a back seat to nobody. In the middle of the 2008 season the Guardians traded Cy Young Award winner CC Sabathia to Milwaukee in exchange for three minor league prospects, and a minor league player to be named later.

5/29/24 Cleveland Guardians' David Fry Stays Hot, But Goes Viral For Brutal Face Plant. David Fry may be one of the hottest hitters in baseball, but that didn't save him from adding to the Cleveland Guardians' blooper reel on Tuesday. Fry slapped a single up the middle in the top of the fifth inning against the Colorado Rockies, bringing him to 2-for-3 on the night. With one out and the bases empty, the 28-year-old left fielder made a break for second base, and Rockies catcher Elías Díaz didn't even bother with a throwdown. Fry faceplanted, knocking his helmet clean off.

5/25/24 Versatile David Fry aims to guide Guardians past Angels. David Fry began spring training with no guarantees that he would even be on the major league roster when the season started. Fry started at catcher and went 2-for-3 with a homer and two walks in the Guardians' 10-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday in the opener of a three-game series in Anaheim, Calif. Fry is the club's ultimate utility tool, having served as Cleveland's catcher, first baseman, third baseman, left fielder and designated hitter. While his versatility is beneficial for the team, it's his offensive production that has forced manager Stephen Vogt to find a spot for him in the lineup as much as possible.

5/24/24 David Fry Is More Than A Utility Player, Guardians Opinion. Many players who can play multiple positions, but can't find a home on defense whether it be offensive woes or inconsistency find themselves with the role of “utility guy.” David Fry's biggest strength when he was called up by the Cleveland Guardians at the beginning of 2023 was his versatility. This gave Fry the title and role of being the team's super-utility player. Here we are, a little over a year since his promotion, and it's become more than clear that Fry is more than a utility player a manager puts in the field somebody needs a day off.
