7/17/24 A closer look at the state of the Red Sox' minor league system at the 2024 All-Star break. The prevalence of middle-infield bats gives the Sox depth and flexibility to make moves. Luis Perales (No. 6), a rocket-armed 21-year-old righthander amid a breakout season, had just been promoted to Double A Portland when he tore his ulnar collateral ligament, necessitating Tommy John surgery in June.

6/19/24 Another Red Sox pitching prospect, Angel Bastardo, may need Tommy John surgery. Luis Perales isn't the only noteworthy Red Sox pitching prospect who is now likely to require Tommy John surgery. According to a major league source, 22-year-old righthander Angel Bastardo has a damaged ulnar collateral ligament. As with Perales, surgery is viewed as the likely outcome, though Bastardo will meet with a doctor to make a final determination. Bastardo, ranked the No. 26 prospect in the Red Sox system by Baseball America entering the year, was 0-5 with a 5.36 ERA in 10 starts for Double A Portland before landing on the injured list.

6/18/24 Red Sox top pitching prospect has stellar season derailed by Tommy John surgery. The injury bug has been vicious this season, particularly against the Boston Red Sox. Not even their minor league system can escape the injuries. Top Red Sox pitching prospect, Luis Perales, is headed for Tommy John surgery. The young righty will miss the rest of the 2024 season and he'll be rehabbing for much of 2025. 6/02/24 Fast-Rising Red Sox Pitching Prospect Dazzles In Double-A Debut. Making the jump to Double-A Portland isn't always easy, but Boston Red Sox rising pitching prospect Luis Perales made it look seamless. The 21-year-old right-hander made his Double-A debut Sunday against the Altoona Curve after being called up from High-A Greenville last week. Perales dominated over five innings of work, allowing just two hits and one run, which was unearned, to go along with one walk and seven strikeouts. It's clear the Red Sox have managed Perales' workload all season as he has yet to throw more than five innings.
