Craving a desire to bolster their ranks and include a veteran in the process, they signed 37-year-old, left-handed reliever Fernando Abad to a minor-league contract.

8/25/23 Brewers Agree To Minor League Deal With Pitcher Fernando Abad. MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – According to MLB.com's transactions tracker, Fernando Abad has signed a minor league contract with the Brewers. Abad will join the Triple-A Nashville to start. He has a 4.26 ERA in six appearances for the Rockies. Abad's 30 1/3 innings in Triple-A this year have produced a 3.86 ERA, with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 27.8% to 2.6%. However, he struggled last week after giving up nine earned runs in his last five appearances. He has played in the major leagues for 11 seasons, previously with the Astros, Nationals, Athletics, Twins, Red Sox, Giants, and Orioles before joining the Rockies this season. The Brewers will increase the depth of their veteran lefty relief pitchers

Newcomer Fernando Abad, relieving Cease, handed the lead right back in the fourth, when back-to-back Alex Avila and Byron Buxton solo shots made it a 2-1 game. Once again, the White Sox counterattacked, Zack Collins lofting a solo shot in the bottom of the frame to tie the game 2-2.

The Nationals added to their bullpen depth Wednesday, signing free-agent reliever Fernando Abad to a minor-league contract with an invite to Spring Training, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Washington. Abad, 34, appeared in 21 games for the San Francisco Giants last season. He posted a 4.15 ERA over 13 innings with a strong 0.923 WHIP.
